Travel Outside The Box: Adventures with Kids in Tow
I often rave about my family road trips and travel because it is while on those trips that I get to see a new side to my kids each time: an adventurous, crazy curious, incredibly fearless side that I don’t get to see on a regular basis.
Ask me if there are any places where I wouldn’t take my children, and aside from a war-ridden destination, there aren’t many places I could name. And that is because once we stepped outside the box – and really we have been stepping out of the box, albeit little by little, for years – of what people consider “family places”, once our children pushed us to trust them and allow them to be more than just “travelers” but also adventurers, once we decided to take on the world unafraid, well, it seems there’s nowhere we wouldn’t go together.
Our list is long and our ambition is great. We want the kiddie rides and the kids clubs, as well as the treks through the rainforests and the camping in the woods, to be a part of our traveling experience, and my kids wouldn’t let anyone limit how adventurous they can be simply because of their age.
In honor of my crazy, fearless kids and all those adventurous families out there, I will teamed up with the best adventure travel team there is, G Adventures on May 8th, 2013, to talk about family travel ideas outside the box with other families. Because when it comes to travel with kids, the sky’s the limit!
UPDATE: The Twitter party (#GFamily) was a great success! We trended for the duration of the Twitter party and had a great group of family travelers come on and join the conversation. I love that so many families are finding courage and inspiration in taking on travel and new adventures with their kids in tow. The world is a beautiful place and there’s nothing like seeing it through children’s eyes. Thank you to all who participated in the chat!
