Sun, Sand, Swizzles and the Celebrity Summit

From exquisite dining experiences, exemplary service and an exotic beach destination, it’s been quite an experience aboard Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Summit so far.

Since the minute my guest and I stepped onboard the ship, we’ve been greeted with cordial smiles. When sharing the same space with around 3,000 people, the genuine and kind interactions we’ve had on the Summit speak volumes.

Upon first impression, we noted that a majority of our fellow passengers were of a certain age. As everyone piled onto the 965-ft. ship, I noticed that most everyone aboard our cruise were from the northeastern states like us, taking advantage of the easily accessible port in Bayonne, New Jersey.

As we made our way to Bermuda, we spent two days at sea, eating, exploring and even enjoying a cocktail or two at our favorite drinking spot, the martini bar. The Martini Bar features an icy bar and frou frou martinis, among other shaken concoctions. As we sipped our colorful cocktails, the bartenders entertained with flair, throwing prop bottles and pouring as many as 15 martinis at once.Celebrity Cruise_girlgonetravel

Weather-wise, our first two days at sea, however, weren’t as exciting as the shows at the martini bar. Due to the rain and clouds, instead of sitting in the sun poolside, we found ourselves in the casino indulging in the penny slots and Black Jack.

When not winning $2 dollars on the penny slots, I, of course, enjoyed eating my way around the ship. The Summit boasts a variety of restaurants, each one appealing to a different taste and ambiance preference. For the duration of the cruise so far, we’ve enjoyed our breakfast and most lunches in the Oceanview Cafe and dinners at the main dining room, the Cosmopolitan.

Our service in our stateroom has been just as comfortable, if not the most accommodating. Beyond his normal duties, our steward, Glorio, greets us every morning, asks our plans and usually greets us as we return to rest before dinner. When we disembark on Sunday, I will miss the nightly turndown and pillowtop chocolates!

With just two and a half days in port in Bermuda, I spent a lot of time researching day trips and taking photos, rather than going on actual excursions. Our bus ride to Horseshoe Bay Beach was a definite highlight and travel milestone. The sheer beauty of the pristine beach, powdery sand and most surreal aqua-colored water, made this day at the beach a memorable one. Behind Boracay in the Philippines, Horseshoe Bay Beach was the second most gorgeous beach I’ve ever visited.

As we set sail in a few hours on our way back to New Jersey, I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in Bermuda. I’ll be talking about last night’s Rum Swizzles and the dance party on the beach for years to come.
