The year of road tripping

When I started blogging in 2008, I really couldn’t afford to fly anywhere…well, that, and I didn’t really want to. My kids were little and people can be real jerks to families with little kids on planes. I just never felt like it was worth it. Plus, after our cross country road trip in 2009, I realized how much easier it was to just pack up a car and go, and how much more of the in-betweens we got to enjoy.

This year I am aiming to making road tripping a bigger part of my travel. Though we have a few trips in mind that will require flying, I am most excited for our time on the road – even once we are overseas.

How Old Should Kids Be to Travel?

This is a question that I get asked quite a bit. As a mother of three boys, people are often very curious to know when did I set out on my first adventure with my children?

I have been traveling with my children since I got the ok from the doctor to do so. I took my first born to Disney when he was less than a year old and to Europe when he was barely 5.

Would I do it again, and did I with my children that followed? No.

This past weekend my husband and I set out to get our youngest boys their very first passports.

My oldest had his passport at a much younger age. It was easier to travel internationally with just one child, but after realizing that he doesn’t remember many of the awesome trips we took together, and not being bathed in wealth to just take trips on end regardless, we decided that with the two youngest we would wait a little longer.

When the time came to get their passports I was so very nervous.
