As a native New Yorker one of the things I pride myself on the most is in being able to bypass all the expensive, shining things that draw visitors to the city, but also put a burden on their budget.

So when OneMain Financial, as part of their Customer Appreciation Days, challenged me to take on two days and one night in New York City with only $200 in my pocket – including a hotel stay – I jumped at the opportunity, and ended with $20 still in my pocket, smack in the middle of holiday season too!

Timeless Ireland at Ashford Castle

I think back at the days I spent touring Ireland and I realize that the moments where I was happiest was when I felt the history of the place around me. There’s something to be revered about a place that has survived the test of time and the whims of humanity.

There would be many places in my Ireland road trip with Insight Vacations that would wow me, but none would be as awe-inspiring as the majestic Ashford Castle.

For those of us on the East Coast a trip to Mexico for a long weekend seems like a crazy idea. But, this is exactly what my family and I did. We headed out to Puerto Vallarta, on behalf of Expedia to try the new services being offered to travelers by Expedia Local Expert.

This new feature allows those booking their travel through Expedia to also plan and book their activities before they even arrive to their destination.

The school year has started for a lot of families and we’re all getting into the routine of things. But before you put away those bathing suits, don’t forget about the long list of holidays to come before the year comes to an end, which makes for a great excuse to plan at least one last family vacation.

If you are like me and prefer to escape the cold then run head-on into it, then Aruba is the perfect family escape.

Los Angeles from a New Yorker’s Point of View

I have been to Los Angeles a lot more times than I ever thought I would. When asked, I have confessed to not being its biggest fan. It is spread out and difficult to navigate. The weather is wonderful, and its got some interesting areas, but the minute I get stuck in traffic or find myself needing to load an app and search for discount codes just so that I can get to my hotel or anywhere else in the city, that little bubble of affection bursts.

Fall Getaway to the Montauk Yacht Club

Most New Yorkers love to visit Montauk, NY during the summer. This coastal area on the Eastern shore of Long Island is not only known for its fishing, but also for the high-end beach houses and trendy New York residents that take over the area during the warmer months.

When my family and I visited at the end of summer, the crowds had started to dwindle down, though it was still quite busy. Over the course of a long weekend, we made the most of our visit and discovered a lot.

Romantic Getaway to Rhinebeck, NY

Things are getting a little busy here in the Cain household and all this snow hasn’t really helped much. My husband and I pride ourselves in taking time away together, but life has gotten in the way as of late.

That’s why on the one free weekend we managed to put aside for ourselves, we decided to take a short road trip to Hudson Valley for an overnight retreat. Lucky for us, it was also the warmest weekend in a long time. We ventured to Rhinebeck, NY.

Images of The Strip, Las Vegas

I can’t really say that Las Vegas (the strip) is my thing, though I am a huge fan of what’s happening in the culinary scene there and can’t deny that the stage productions are truly one of a kind (a must see is Rose. Rabbit. Lie. by my friend David Foster, et. al.).

I am not much of a gambler and I always feel like the not-so-fun guest in a party everyone else seems to really, really, really be enjoying.

My husband and I are celebrating 10 years of marriage. We celebrated this past weekend with him surprising me with a weekend getaway to the Catskill Mountains.

I won’t deny that my eyes teared up when he revealed his surprise, and all the research he had done to find our special romantic spot.

Eating My Way Through Anguilla

Even though, for the moment, I am more than happy with the chilly weather in New York City, it won’t be long before I start wanting to escape to the beach again.

My list of favorite beach destinations is getting longer and recently I added another favorite: Anguilla.

Anguilla is a British island in the Caribbean. With a population of a little over 15,000, this is the kind of place where people really know each other, and if you visit enough times, will really get to know you as well. It is friendly and welcoming. During my visit, I had the opportunity to really experience the people, but most importantly, the food.

I did my best to eat as much as I could while in Anguilla (because, you know, research) and discovered some pretty great spots along the way. Because it’s not a very big island, with enough planning you too can eat you way through Anguilla and see why it has become one of the most celebrated culinary destinations in the Caribbean.
