Happy Days at The One Happy Island of Aruba

This post brought to you by Aruba Tourism Authority. All opinions are 100% mine.

Before I made it out to Aruba, I had heard so many great things from those who have visited often. As a matter of fact, it seems that those who spoke about their visits always returned. Since being invited to discover the island as a guest of Aruba and the Zimmerman Agency, I have been planning my return to the one happy island with its clear skies, turquoise beaches, friendly people, and white sands.

If you haven’t been to Aruba yet, there are so many reasons to consider and a list of must-do’s.

A Few Favorite Beaches Via the Long Island Rail Road

As the weather gets warmer, and the city streets get hotter, my family and I love to go on little beach getaways outside of Manhattan. Our beach destination of choice: Long Island.

Even though we have a car, we often find that not driving is not only greener, but easier, especially in the Summer months when traffic into and out of Manhattan is at its absolute worse.

We have found that despite the comfort in being able to throw everything in the car, the hassle of driving there and back, the traffic, the cost in gas, and parking has made commuting to the beach a much better option.

If only going for the day, we pack our lunch, a few books and activities, leave early in the morning to avoid the mad rush, and enjoy the ride out. The LIRR is our transportation option out there, and I enjoy the big seats, quiet rides, and air conditioned cars.

Summer Fun at Luna Park and Coney Island

As I sit and write this post, my skin aches a bit from the hours under the sun, my feet are tired, and my heart is filled with joy, for we chose to spend this day in Coney Island.

We met up with our darling friend Raven and her beautiful daughter M., and headed out to Brooklyn mid-morning. With the forecast promising thunderstorms by mid-afternoon, we were unsure of how long our fun would last.

However, Coney Island is one of those places where you may not plan to stay long, but can’t seem to get out of easily. It’s just such an awesome visit, with tons to do, I am really and truly amazed that our beloved, historical site has experienced such hardships over the years.

Great Kills Park and Beach, Staten Island, NY

Sun. Finally. After weeks of rain and cloudiness the sun was out, bright and warm for everyone to enjoy, with no imminent threat of rain in the forecast.

I had been itching to try a new beach, and wanted to head to Staten Island for the occasion.  So I consulted my friend, and a person who is in the know about anything and everything relating to Staten Island especially, Melissa. Melissa recommended that we spend the day at Great Kills Park and Beach.

Great Kills is not only a beach, it also offers terrain for biking, hiking, fishing spots, and beautiful sites of the marina located there.  I was excited to head out of Manhattan and into Staten Island.  We only really “discovered” Staten Island since our recent return to NY and really like to visit the museums and parks there.

Building Memories in Coney Island, NY

Lazy mornings, if ignored, can lead to lazy afternoons until they become days, causing, without notice the complete extinction of a day once fully planned with activities.  This was the danger we faced this morning.  And though there is nothing wrong with lazy mornings, afternoons, or days, it is very rare that the ones feeling “lazy” are my children, thus forcing the laziness right out of me, in exchange for my sanity and avoidance of the complete collapse of our small NYC apartment from all the running around and crazy boy energy being contained there.
