A Walk Through History at Duke Farms, NJ

Oh, New Jersey. You never cease to amaze me. We've enjoyed finding more and more ways to spend time outdoors, in nature. But most of all, we've been able to enjoy it all at minimal cost, if not free. We've such enjoyed these awesome finds that when we aren't travel[...]

Eating & Hiking in Austin, TX

It seems that my visits to Austin, TX are destined to be filled with days of food coma close encounters. It's not my fault,  Austin is just that kind of town. I mean, yes, its got that whole hipster, artsy, music thing going for it, but the food. Oh, the food. It'[...]

Trails, Haunted Houses, and Lake Surprise: Watchung Reservation

On Spring days like the ones we have been enjoying lately, it's pretty hard to stay inside. Museums and movie theaters become difficult to endure, especially if you love the outdoors as much as we do. Being in NJ has made it so much easier to access countless hikin[...]

Beach, Sun, and Ice Cream at Ipswich, MA

Several summers ago, we made plans to visit our friends near Boston, MA.  We were excited to return, since we had enjoyed Boston so much last time we visited.  What we didn't know at the time was that this weekend would be the weekend when NYC would experience it[...]

The Best Reason to Travel

There are a lot of reasons why people travel. Some people travel to lose themselves, others travel to find themselves. Some people travel to escape, others to find home. Some look for adventures and new discoveries, others to reconnect with memories and long-los[...]

Touring Madava Farms, Home of Crown Maple Syrup

On a lazy Saturday, one of the first of Spring, my family and I decided to venture out to Dutchess County, NY on a maple farm tour. We had first toured a maple syrup farm in Lake Placid a couple of years ago, and though the terrain was had more snow and the weat[...]

Do what you love.

The video below has been circulating around the Internet for some time now. I saw it a few months ago, but saw it again just recently when a friend saw it and thought of me - something which I have to say flattered me deeply. And this is because I believe in thi[...]

Pursuing Your Dreams, Against The Grain

Every so often, here on Girl Gone Travel, I like to share a personal story or two to remind people that the person sharing stories on travel and food, beautiful hotels and retreats, is a real person who experienced some really harsh moments, all of which pushed her[...]

The Courage to Travel: How to Make It Your Own

The media dog has found a new bone. This time it is the topic of women traveling solo, and why we shouldn't, using as the example the tragic death of 33-year-old solo female traveler, Sarai Sierra, an American, in Turkey. I won't start another post talking about w[...]

Healing my soul with people I love while trekking Healing my soul with people I love while trekking through glens in search of an eternal flame. 🔥

This hike, in Chestnut Ridge Park, near Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo, NY, is a moderate, 1.5-mile round trip (more or less) that takes you on forest trails, with some stairs, and creek walking; so definitely bring waterproof shoes with grip. This popular spot can get crowded, but if you’re lucky enough to have a solo experience like we did (because of rain), it’s pretty magical.
The most perfect date night in the most perfect li The most perfect date night in the most perfect little bistro in the most perfect New York destination. No, not NYC. The Finger Lakes.

The entire experience at @deanlanedining felt so incredibly elevated and special, and some might even say unexpected, especially from a farmhouse in rural Dundee, NY.

Husband and wife team, Michael and Lisa Dean create a wonderful farm-to-table prix fix menu, beautifully paired with wines selected by Sommelier @danbrezinsky, who, for as long as the moment allows, further complements the first tastings with a sharing of his deep knowledge and passion for the Finger Lakes wines he serves. The individual pairings per course (4) are optional but I do highly recommend as they influenced each dish and in some cases, my opinion of certain wines.

The vibe is intimate and personally, I enjoyed the early seating as I got to admire the sunset through the large dining room windows throughout my time there.

Their highly coveted B&B is fully booked for 2026, but reservations are open for limited seating at the restaurant, with menus changing weekly.

An absolute highlight, and a must during your visit to the Finger Lakes!

One of the dreamiest of views for me, that I don’t think I will ever tire of, is mist over the hills and lakes. And rainy seasons like these are perfect for such moments.

After an eventful evening (and thank you all for the love and congratulatory messages🤎), I am eager to spend this rainy day back at my computer getting work done.

It’s a wonderful thing to be immersed in a region you love, and to often be tasked to share its stories with others, it’s a whole other thing when regional representatives not only notice it, but reward you for it.

To listen to others get on stage and talk about that work with such admiration and awe still feels surreal and beyond flattering. It’s overwhelming. And I am grateful beyond words, and excited to continue to do the best that I can for as long as I am welcomed and given the opportunity to do so.

So whether it is for work (@braveworldmedia) or on this page, I am happy to share the stories and many reasons why we, along with so many others, decided to make this our home. ❤️

Thanks for the support and for following along.
