Just a short drive from Honeoye Lake (check out my Just a short drive from Honeoye Lake (check out my reel!) is the small village of Honeoye Falls in Mendon, NY, named after the waterfall on Honeoye Creek. Founded in 1791 by miller Zebulon Norton, this village makes for a cute day trip. In addition to the beautiful views of the old mill and falls, there are a few other stops to make a day of your visit. I enjoyed my time exploring the @bleakhousebookshk, an independent, family-owned bookstore that originated in Hong Kong. I stopped in @sweetandcutesweets for a sweet bite and lemonade, and completed my visit with a stop into @okaybeerco, a brewery located inside a 16-lane bowling alley and offers 8 house-made beers, craft cocktails, and local wine. It also has some of the most kickass nachos I have tasted in a long time. It’s a beautiful weekend and we started it with It’s a beautiful weekend and we started it with a Saturday morning in Ithaca, NY. Of course, you can’t fail with a visit to the @ithacafarmersmarket (also open on Sundays through November). Some coffee, with fresh bread from @wideawakebakery fueled the shopping experience. After collecting fresh herbs and veggies for Sunday’s brunch with friends, we headed over to @ithacacommons for the weekend-long #ithacaisbooks festival hosted by a forever fave of mine, @buffalostreetbooks and featuring independent book shops from across the region. This festival is officially top on my list. Loved it! With arms full of new reads, and some entertainment from @cornelluniversity’s marching band, @bigredmarchingband, I ended my morning fun with a stop into the super cute @home.green.home for a new plant baby. 🌿 So if you have time, @visitithaca this weekend! Vinegar Hill, steps from Dumbo is one of the few O Vinegar Hill, steps from Dumbo is one of the few Old Brooklyn hold outs still left in the city. It got its name from the Battle of Vinegar Hill in Ireland in 1798. And Bridge Coffee Shop, right on the border, is where to get your Dominican food fix…and a bit more of the cultural diversity of the area. This is where the locals and working class community is hanging out. Because of Con Ed’s substation occupying the East River shoreline, the crews will arrive early for their morning fill. And sadly today they beat me and finished all the mangú before I got there. But the yuca with eggs and sautéed onions paired with a fresh cafecito con leche hit the spot and I left so full I had to walk it off a bit! So next time you’re in Dumbo, walk a few blocks over to experience a bit of old-school Brooklyn and support the small eateries and businesses still holding on and serving us the best of what they do. #brooklynny #newyork #bridgecoffeeshop
Come to the supermarket with me. 🛒 While I love Come to the supermarket with me. 🛒 While I love bopping around restaurants and cafes in NYC, I also really enjoy just walking to do regular errands and everyday things. In fact the walking culture of the city is one of the things I miss the most and even when I can take a bike or train, if it’s a beautiful day, I will just walk. Luckily, the Brooklyn Navy Yard is a short walk for us and there’s a @wegmans (!!) which opened in 2019 here. We headed out, our tote bags in tow, past people walking their dogs, and commuters on bikes, and other city walkers. First we stopped into the Kings County Distillery, which makes handmade bourbon, rye, and other whiskeys out of the 123-year-old Paymaster Building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and picked up a bottle of peated whiskey, then headed right next door to Wegmans to pick up all our favorite things for dinner. It’s so cool to have a bit of the Finger Lakes here in Brooklyn a short little stroll away. ❤️ Are you a fan of walking everywhere too? #brooklyn
