Weekend at The Catskills, NY

I'm slowly realizing that I am a mountain girl. Well, ok, not really. But I want to be. My husband laughs at me because I tell him I often daydream of living in a house, near a creek, with a garden (so what that I don't have a green thumb) and tire swing on a tree[...]

Travel Memories: It’s The Little Things

I’m in the car running errands with my teen…the fun stuff: groceries, post office, bank. Really thrilling stuff. We’ve just returned from our Mediterranean cruise, and I am still feeling the effects of jet lag, but I haven’t had any time to really just r[...]

A Birthday in Disneyland, CA

One of the highlights of our 2013 summer road trip for my kids was where we were ending it: at Disneyland Resort. It was here that we chose to celebrate our middle son's 8th birthday. He waited two and a half weeks on the road for this moment and what resulted was[...]

Where Would You Go?

During my visit to Seattle, I came upon a traveler's paradise: the Metsker Maps of Seattle store. My husband, children, and I all looked at each other with excitement in our eyes. As I admired the many maps from all over the world, a question kept floating ar[...]

Exploring Rome with a Pocket Full of Pennies

I have never been to Rome, yet have heard so much about it and I was excited to check it out. Our hosts at Carnival Cruise paid for our (my teen and I) excursion fee, which consisted of a tour called "Rome on Your Own". Basically, it was the hour ride from the por[...]

Getting Lost in Venice, Italy

Getting lost in Venice, Italy is somewhat of an expected thing and part of the adventure. When I planned an afternoon for discovering of most of the 118 islands that make up Venice, I came armed with two maps, a GPS, and a mission to get to specific "must-see" site[...]

Taking it Easy in San Francisco, CA

Of course during our 2013 road trip, we had to stop in San Francisco, but by the time we got there we wanted nothing more than to take it slow, keep the activities to a bare minimum, and try simply to enjoy the sites without forcing ourselves into traffic - which a[...]

Opening Up to Change When Traveling

I am still processing all the details of my experiences during our recent road trip, still going through the words that I want to share here with you. I felt quite different coming back from that journey, before I set off on another. The Carnival Cruise along th[...]

Loving Olympic National Park

While I was in the West Coast, and exactly after I had left Seattle and driven past the signs to Olympic National Park due to lack of time, I received the news that myself and fellow travel bloggers, Chelle and Crystal (of BrownGirlsFly) and Ana (of TravelingLatina[...]

Happy Days at The One Happy Island of Aruba

Before I made it out to Aruba, I had heard so many great things from those who have visited often. As a matter of fact, it seems that those who spoke about their visits always returned. Since my first visit, I have been planning my return to the one happy island wi[...]

Josie update: her most recent vet visit was stella Josie update: her most recent vet visit was stellar. She’s healthy and happy and has gained 5 whole pounds, which is great because she came to us a little underweight probably from stress.

She is a huge fan of cuddles and likes to start calming things down around 9PM - seriously, she INSISTS. She’s a big fan of sneakers, which has really encouraged everyone to not leave theirs just laying around (thanks, Josie)! She is a quick learner, quicker if treats are involved and an absolute sweetheart with other pups.

She’s a big fan of pup cups, car rides, and long walks in the park, but not of lakes, motorcycles, or crickets. 😂

And we love her a billion.
These last days of summer to me feel like the swee These last days of summer to me feel like the sweetest. I hurry to take in every warm sun beam even as the days become shorter. I check my local farmstands for the bounty of the season, even as the early harvest plenty slowly take over. I want to dip into the lakes one more time before they chill up again, and I want to see all my friends outside before we slowly retreat into hibernation. Don’t get me wrong, autumn is my absolute favorite season, but the warmth of summer, the sounds of children still at play, the beautiful long days it gifts us are things I appreciate.

So as eager as we might be for what’s to come let’s not take for granted what still remains. And that we are so lucky to experience it here in this beautiful place we call home. So many people have to leave soon. We’re the lucky ones who get to stay.

Finally had a chance to stop into @thefastracks by Finally had a chance to stop into @thefastracks by @julietsfinds to congratulate her on her sweet shop and journey. If you have been following Juliet, you know she is a pro at thrifting amazing finds, and now you get to enjoy from it all. But I have especially loved following her journey into finding her shop, turning it into what it has become, and now seeing it packed with goodies and customers.

Bravo, Juliet! So happy for you and our community, and wishing you continued success! Go give her some love! She’s right on Bridge St. in Corning!

Time feels like it’s slipping away. Today marks Time feels like it’s slipping away. Today marks one whole month since adopting our sweet little Josie and already we can’t imagine our lives without her in it. How I love her. 💕🐾The most perfect dog in all the world.

Our youngest boys go back to college and I feel like we only just picked them up for summer break.

Summer’s end is near, and while there are a few things I still want and need to do, I will confess I am not entirely sad about it.

Life is a whirlwind. I have no clear view of what’s next or where I am going, but I have a goal 🤷🏾‍♀️So, yay? I am however really happy. There’s something about the unpredictable that I love, and hate.

If only time would slow down just a little bit. I don’t want to miss a thing. But it’s all moving so fast, I am afraid I often do.

Hope you are having better luck at holding on to the moments before they become memories.
Epic morning check list: First day’s screening o Epic morning check list: First day’s screening of The Odyssey in Rochester’s IMAX theater, followed by brekkie and a cafecito or two at @montgomerycourtcoffee, one of our bucket list cafes!

Bonus: getting to connect in person with owner Colin, and walking away with a bag of his Brazil roast, which is 😘👌🏾as a cold brew. The breakfast burritos are a must, but we are late to this game cause everyone already knows, and the vibe is ✨it✨.

If you haven’t already, add them to your list of must-visit cafes in ROC…and yes, the movie was awesome.
