People often ask me what my favorite travel destination is. It’s a toss-up between Scotland and Ireland. But between the two, I have to say that Dublin, Ireland was one of the most romantic trips I have ever taken with my husband.
So when Expedia asked its Viewfinders to write a sponsored post about their most romantic travel experience (full disclosure), I knew Dublin would be it. While only 5% of Americans interviewed for the 2015 Expedia Romance Study (to be released next week) believe “city” vacations are most romantic, I would have to argue that it’s because they’ve never been to Dublin.
We went in the fall, so the weather was cold and windy and as is typical for the area, rainy. But something about the energy in the city, the warmth of the people, the music and food, brought my husband and I closer together. We definitely fell well within the 28% of Americans in the study who reported being “more intimate” with a partner while on vacation.
The cozy hotel options complimented our experience and the walks along the cobblestone streets as the sun rose and people were still waking up set a romantic tone that would stay with us all day long, a feeling that comes back to us every time we think of it. My husband is part Irish and experiencing a part of his cultural heritage served also helped to bring as closer. I think he is hella sexy, but seeing learning more about his roots made it even more so.
If the countryside is more your scene, there are plenty of places to get romantic. Lock lips at the ‘P.S. I love you’ bridge (also known as the Sally Pass in the Irish Badlands) or overlooking At the cliffs overlooking Lough Tay in the Wicklow Mountains.

I agree. My husband and I went to Ireland in October of last year to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Even though we traveled through some of the countryside also, our favorite stop was in Dublin. We feel in love with Ireland and Dublin the most.
