South Street Seaport: The Adventure Home

Continued from: Governor’s Island

The ferry ride to and from Governor’s Island is a short one.  On their way back to Manhattan, NYCity Mama and family didn’t bother to get to the front of the ferry and check out the views.  They were content with just siting back, enjoying the breeze that came in through the windows, and rest.

The crowd exited the ferry in an organized, yet hurried pace, and Mama and her husband started making their walk down towards the South Street Seaport, because now the idea of a nice cold beverage and the fact that the kids were mellow and quiet, seemed to allow for that.

img_6744As they walked along the Hudson River they were instructed to walk on the East end of the street, and they could see that the heliport, tight with security, was guarding the President’s helicopter, the one that he and Mrs. Obama arrived in for their NYC Date!

img_6746They didn’t see the President, nor his wife, and continued their walk to the pier able to hear the music and festivities taking place there the closer they got to it. They took the time to make a couple of stops, take some pictures, trying not to hurry the rare moment when they get to enjoy such great weather.

img_6582The South Street Seaport was bustling with activities.  Unlike the last time she wrote about it, all the shops and restaurants were open.  Musicians and performers were out doing their thing, children playing, and people enjoying the sites and activities, of which there are plenty there.

img_6783One musician in particular, playing the Spanish guitar, knew how to draw a crowd.  Playing his guitar upside down, backwards, in reverse, people applauded him and joined in dance.  There was a fun group of young men, some of them dressed in the silliest golfing attire Mama had ever seen a real life person wear, that were kind enough to pose for a picture.  Not sure why they were dressed this way, her husband thinks it must’ve been a bachelor’s party.  Whatever it was, they all looked like they were having a lot of fun and while Mama and her family sat down to eat, they kept them well entertained.

Great picture log or story or whatever you call it. I think I ate at a Heartland Brewery right next to the empire state building when I was in New York. I love anything that involves the word brewery.

A necessary couple of days to reset and just breat A necessary couple of days to reset and just breathe. It’s wild that we are already on the final months of 2026.

The world feels like it’s on fire and humanity is being tested in greater ways than so many of us can even begin to process. Society and our communities demand more from us than a lot of us have ever been called to give. But we must. And it can be exhausting and scary. But we must.

I hope everyone goes out and votes. Protesting by NOT voting really helped to get us here. Tried and tested. So, no thanks. That was a shit plan. Now we must do more. Voting is not the overall solution. Those of us who continuously experience discrimination, misogyny, and violence towards our people know this. But it gives us a better footing to continue the fight ahead.

There’s never “nothing” you can do, but doing nothing is never the answer.

See you out there.

I love being your mother, @davidcaiinn. You make us proud and your dad and I love witnessing your journey.

You are loved more than we could ever express in our lifetimes. Happy birthday. 🎂
Started the day with a little roadtrip with Josie Started the day with a little roadtrip with Josie where she got the very rare pleasure to sit upfront (yes, she was harnessed to seatbelt) on her way to her very first doggie day care visit where she quickly made friends and happily played her heart out. But of course, it’s never enough so we got to play a bit more while the sun set.

She is the sheddiest, most cuddly, sweetest doggie, and we love her so much. It’s only been 21/2 months, but it feels like she’s been here, with us, forever. 💕
