New York Hall of Science, Corona, Queens, NY

It’s a beautiful, yet very cold day here in New York City.  On days like these many parents are going a little crazy trying to figure out what to do with their kids.

I have a few “inside” favorites, like the The Brooklyn’s Children Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, Liberty Science Center, Staten Island Children’s Museum, and the New York Hall of Science.

We discovered the New York Hall of Science this past Summer, when in looking for something to do we went with something we had not done before.  We traveled to Corona Queens, and right there, around the corner from The Playground for All Children, is the Hall of Science.

At the time, there was even a Farmer’s Market taking place right in front, though small, it seemed well visited by the locals. We walked past the Rocket Park and The Rocket Park Mini Golf (fee to enter), and walked through to the main exhibition hall, where my kids spent most of their time playing with molecules, gravity, microbes, and so much more.

That’s what’s so great about this Hall of Science, it’s incredibly interactive, and the exhibits are set up in a way that really encourage the kids to “participate” in the learning opportunities before them because they have fun in the process.

IMG_2338There’s also tons to do. The second level has even more exhibits going on, they host educational demonstrations, have a party room for birthdays, and the interactive themes and shows throughout. On the other side of the Science Hall is the library, as well as a play area for smaller children.

We spent a good portion of our day here and had a wonderful time.  I still felt that we didn’t cover all there was to see and do, and now with new upcoming exhibitions, there is even more to discover in our next visit. But if it’s a nicer day, and the kids are STILL feeling restless, there is also a playground, The Corona Golf Playground,  right across the avenue from the New York Hall of Science, which we also visited and really complimented our day out.

So when you wake up to a cold, snowy, or rainy day, remember that you live in the greatest city in the world and there are plenty of adventures out there for you and the little ones!

One of our favorite places. Plenty to do for little kids as well as the older ones. My oldest attends a science-and-engineering focused middle school, and they recently had a research project to complete at the Hall of Science. And thanks for the information about the benefit!

Isn't it funny what we find in our backyard. This looks like a fun place to visit. I may have to borrow a child and go. Thanks for sharing!!!

My wildflower field is reminding me of an importan My wildflower field is reminding me of an important trait: patience. So much in my life right now feels out of my control. I am experiencing a massive shift and uneasiness, and things I want to happen are so slow and feel like they are not happening at all. It is very unsettling and frustrating.

But this was also my garden. The blooms weren’t blooming. It felt like they were never going to come. Like it would skip us this year. And I was sad at the thought that for reasons outside of my control, regardless of everything we did to tend to this garden, we would just not get the results we’d hope for.

But this morning, I woke up, and there they were. The first few flowers. Colorful and bright, with bumblebees dancing around them. And when I looked closer, I saw so many more buds waiting to burst open.

It all needed time. Not the time I gave them, or expected, but what was necessary.

And so things may not happen as we wish they would, when we wish they could, but they will. We just have to be patient and trust the process. Easier said than done, I know. But, at least I have a beautiful flowering garden to admire while I wait.

I get what it is to be from the big city and not being able to imagine a life so beautiful anywhere else. It certainly was me.

And then, I came to the Finger Lakes…and the rest is history.

Have you ever been to a shop so pretty and cozy it Have you ever been to a shop so pretty and cozy it makes you emotional? In NYC, @niconeco_zakkaya is up there as a fave for me.

This Japanese-inspired stationary boutique in the East Village gives me all the fuzzy feels and I was sad to hear that after 8 years unharmed, their charming shop sign was vandalized.

They are calling on a creative illustrator who might be interested in bringing a new one to life. Check their Insta for more. And as always, support, shop, and give all the love to small businesses wherever you live and your travels may take you. And next time you are in the East Village, go check them out, and their cafe in Williamsburg, @loafonpaperny (see my reel on them). My 🫶🏾 to this little shop.
