Conrad Concierge: 5-Star Luxury at The Tip of Your Fingers

One of my favorite moments traveling around is when I find a new hotel closer to home in NYC where I enjoyed my stay so much that I can’t wait to tell everyone else about it.

This past weekend, that new experience was had by my family and myself, at the new Conrad Hotel NYC. The hotel first opened in March of 2012 where the Embassy Suites used to be and the smell of new still lingers in the air. Located in Battery Park City, and only steps and with full views of the Hudson River, the hotel is ideally situated and makes for a walker-friendly destination.

This 5-start luxury hotel has a total wow effect from the moment you walk in, with my two little ones literally exclaiming “Wooooo-ow!” even before we made it up the large stair case towards the reception. It has everything to do with the open, airy design, complimented by the giant windows that not only allow for a lot of natural lighting, but also for an unobstructed view of the river, which on a clear day can be quite the sight. Everything is a work of art from the contemporary seating in the massive lobby, to the architect, Monica Ponce De Leon’s Veils sculpture and Sol LeWitt’s  13 stories tall Loopy Doopy Blue and Purple 1999. Even the staircases that lead up to the roomy conference and meeting spaces are a dramatic work of art. Walking around the hotel guests can take in a total of about 2,000 artworks.

The  hotel features 463 suites, which vary in size, but still offer the space, comfort and modern amenities I love to see in hotels. My family and I stayed in a 2 double bed deluxe suite. The bedroom and living space where separated by a wet bar, walk through area. Each room had a large flat screen t.v., and the living area had a fold out sofabed. Both rooms could be closed out by sliding frosted glass doors, giving everyone the privacy they needed. I also like that the toilet and shower (which is heavenly, by the way) are separate and I liked the doorbell feature to the room, which has a color light system which allows the guest to program it to show whether the room needs service or would like privacy.

One new feature Conrad Hotels and Resorts is offering guests is their Conrad Concierge app. I downloaded the app to my iPhone from home (free) and with it, I was able to do an Echeck-in (even choosing what room and floor I wanted to stay in). I was able to request amenities such as extra towels, toiletries and pillows, and I was able to order room service, indicating every detail, from how I wanted my eggs and coffee to what time I wanted my food delivered. The app allows for guests to make other requests as well, such as requesting car service and valet parking, schedule wake-up calls, make dining reservations, or even order location maps. It helped to further personalize my stay even before I got there and allowed me the freedom to enjoy my visit without having to waste any of it in requests and arrangements. The app can be downloaded to any Apple or Android mobile device by visiting www.conradhotels.com/conradconcierge.

Despite having all the service we needed to make staying in easier, we did get out and enjoy what the nearby neighborhoods had to offer. Across the street we took in the foggy scene from the Irish Hunger Memorial. We later walked a few blocks to the World Trade Center. A short train ride dropped us off right in the center of it all: Times Square, where we shopped and took in the sights from Rockefeller Center to Bryant Park and everything in between.

A quiet night at the hotel’s ATRIO restaurant with the family was the perfect way to end our busy evening. The service was very friendly albeit a little slow, but the food was worth the wait. Led by Chef Anthony Zamora, ATRIO serves up Mediterranean flavors with modern flair. It was delicious from start to finish, and a perfect date night spot, though I went with my kids (and there were other families there) and they offer a children’s menu as well. Breakfast was also really good, something you can enjoy in your room, in the breakfast set up they have in the atrium area, or in the restaurant while taking in the view of outside or of the chef working away in the open kitchen.

The hotel also has a rooftop bar, the Loopy Doopy Bar, however it is only opened during the warmer months. Definitely add it to your date night list however. The majestic views of the Hudson River are breathtaking during the sunset hours, something you will want to enjoy with a special someone and friends. There is a fitness center, which has nice big windows and lots of lights and plenty of treadmills. There is a gift shop, as well as a barber shop which can set up services upon request. Also upon request guests can set up for spa treatments and babysitting.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay, the food, and all there is to do nearby. The kids didn’t want to leave, and honestly, I wouldn’t have been too upset if I had to stay a little longer. The rooms were really comfortable, and though there were 5 of us, the space and ability to separate it with the doors was a really nice feature.

I want to thank Conrad New York for hosting us and for the sweet gesture in helping us celebrate our little one’s birthday. He loved his cake!

My church Bible study group used to meet in the lobby of that hotel pre-remodel and I went back a few months ago to see a movie and was floored at the update. Simply stunning! Pictures cannot do it justice. So fun that you were able to go with your family and make a weekend out of it!

Woke up feeling rested after going, going, going f Woke up feeling rested after going, going, going for over a week…and grateful for the privilege that is living in such a beautiful region. There are so many points of access for relaxation and stillness here, including right outside my door. So before delving into the work day, I took a peaceful walk, stopped for brekkie (thanks, @ellasacreshomestead), and continued the day refreshed.

If 10 years ago…or even 5 years ago…you had told THIS Brooklyn girl that she would find joy living full time in rural NY, I would’ve laughed in your face. And while NYC will always be home and #1 in my heart, as I live through my 3rd year here, I have to say…yeah. I get it.

Love coffee as much as I do? Here is my (very, ver Love coffee as much as I do? Here is my (very, very) short list of fave coffee shops, from Manhattan to Brooklyn.

I spend A LOT of time at coffee shops…whether in my job as a barista or during my free time exploring endless cafes during my travels, but especially around NYC and the Finger Lakes. These are the most noteworthy cafes I find myself returning to again and again in New York City.

📍@conwellcoffeehall in the old Life and Trust Building in the Financial District. An epic space, great brekkie and coffee, brought to you by the same folks of Sleep No More…who (separately but in the same space) offer similar interactive-style performances we know them for, this time revisiting the age of old money, big banks, and the stock market crash collapse of 1929.
📍The @bookclubbar is a bar, book store, and coffee shop in the East Village. Cozy, with outdoor seating, and a wonderful selection of books, booze, and brews. Very few people get all of these elements to work well. They nail it.
📍The @plantshednyc in the East Village. Airy space with a beautiful selection of flowers and plants, and big, bright windows whereby to enjoy your cafe choice.
📍@DawnsTillDusk in Dumbo is a cafe by day and wine bar by night. It’s a Yes to both for me!
📍@Usaginy in Dumbo is an art gallery, with small bookstore and gift shop, and cafe…but their in-house freshly made onigiri is 😘👌🏾
📍@pplnyc in Williamsburg is rustic, and pretty, and cute…and yeah, the coffee’s good!
📍@bluebrown_nyc in Williamsburg stole my heart when I first visited last year on my birthday. I love the vibe of this community cafe and the creativity they bring to their pastries and drinks.
📍@Devocionusa (anywhere), though my local spot is Dumbo. I love that they are all about the coffee…and just the coffee. No fancy, trends here. Come for the impeccable coffee, and delicious pastries, and cool vibes. But mostly, the coffee.

This list doesn’t even make a dent on my long list of cafes but they are the highlights. Share your fave spots in the comments! ☕️

This is your reminder to PLAY. No matter your age. This is your reminder to PLAY. No matter your age. Play. Play with your partner. Play with your adult friends. Play with your kids, even the adult ones. Play with strangers. The world can be cruel and hard and deflating. So, when the opportunity comes…and even if you need a nudge from your loved ones…give your heart, soul, and mind a reprieve and play.

Today me and mine played at the Keff Joons pop-up in Dumbo, Brooklyn. This is @cj_hendry latest art installation where they transformed a Brooklyn warehouse into balloon-filled dreamscape and playground for all. There is no fee and the earlier you arrive the shorter the wait. Once inside you become one with the art in a fun and dramatic way. But hurry! The installation is only up till April 20th!
