Day trip to Newburgh, NY

Along the Hudson Valley and about an hour and a half from New York City (with no traffic) is the city of Newburgh, NY. To see it on its surface, one might see what most people refer to as "up and coming". However, look deeper and you will see a historic city, with[...]

Timeless Ireland at Ashford Castle

I think back at the days I spent touring Ireland and I realize that the moments where I was happiest was when I felt the history of the place around me. There's something to be revered about a place that has survived the test of time and the whims of humanity. Th[...]

Road trip thru France’s Most Beautiful Destinations

Over the past three years, I've shared some fun adventures in travel through France. Many will agree that train travel through the country is one of the fastest ways to get around, and I agree, if you have the extra budget and if you don't get stuck in the middle o[...]

Five things I love about New Jersey

I've lived in New Jersey now for about 4 years now. Like most hardcore New Yorkers, it's been a slow process to get me to let go of this idea that I have to venture into the city for good food, entertainment, or activities. I still get teased by friends for bec[...]

The Best Travel Stories

This year has been an incredible year in travel. Traveling to Thailand, my first trip to Asia, was such a great experience, visiting Istanbul as part of my role as a White House Travel Blogger was surreal, visiting Guatemala - twice - left me beyond words, and of c[...]

Family Fun in St. Martin

St. Martin has been a romantic getaway destination for me in the past, but that's not to say that there isn't any fun on this 34 square mile island for kids to enjoy as well. There are two parts of this island to explore. The French side (St. Martin) and the Dut[...]

The Travel Dream, 18 Years Later

A little over 18 years ago I had saved up money working for a non-profit in New York City while also going to college for my Bachelors in Communications to travel the world once I had gotten my degree. My degree, I had decided then, was a symbol of pride for my[...]

Fall Weekend Cruising the Hudson

Last year my family and I got up early on a Sunday morning to take a cruise up the Hudson River in celebration of Oktoberfest. Granted, I am not a huge beer drinker and tend to not consume much alcohol when I am on an outing with my kids, but visiting Bear Mountain[...]

Summer isn’t complete without a visit to @spotte Summer isn’t complete without a visit to @spotted_duck_flx in Penn Yan, NY.

Here you can get frozen custard made from duck eggs, and they also have some dairy free options which are lovely as well.

It can get busy, especially since being named the best ice cream in New York State, so expect long lines during high tourist seasons. But you can also get lucky, as we did, and experience a mellow visit surrounded by cute ducks and chickens and the serenity of farm country living.

Worth the visit either way.

Taking in the sunset by the lake. We enjoy coming Taking in the sunset by the lake. We enjoy coming to the lake much later in the day when most people have left, and when we get to take a dip after a long, hot day to reset and relax.

Almost 4 years since we moved to the Finger Lakes and I still can’t believe this is my lucky life. ❤️

Thank you Toronto for the fun! This NYC girlie e Thank you Toronto for the fun!

This NYC girlie enjoyed experiencing a different city, and finally making it to this one especially.

I felt no pressure to check a bunch of things off “for the ‘gram” so enjoyed slowly touring around and spending time in areas I enjoyed the most.

For those who have never been, like any city in the summer, it can be unpleasant on terribly hot days, and super crowded in touristy spots, but there are beaches and museums to escape to! People also seem generally friendlier.

Toronto is really spread out so getting around can take awhile because of traffic, and public transport can get crowded at certain times. Best bet are the commuter bikes or walking - which we did tons of, especially in search of good coffee. There is a lot of good food but depending on where you are, you’ll have to travel a ways for it.

In general, I found it to be an interesting city, with a vibrant and strong immigrant community, which I loved, and am excited to return and see more someday soon!
