There are many reasons to visit Ohio's Lake Erie area during the warmer months. Areas like Kelleys Island, Put-in-Bay (or South Bass Island), and Middle Bass Island are just a few of the top reasons why visitors flock to the area every summer, making[...]

Playa del Carmen: An intro to Mexico

As I write this the chilly wind keeps forcing the frozen branches outside to slap against my window pane. My house is warm but I can't help but feel a slight chill come over me. "It's freakin' cold outside," I think as I grab a warm cup of tea, in the hopes that i[...]

Family, Turkey, and Christmas Tree Hunting

I've been busy these past few days with family from out-of-town visiting and Thanksgiving. We rarely have family over for the holidays. It is almost always just the 5 of us, which is fine, but there's something so much more special when you have others present to s[...]

Behind the photo: City of Music

I was on a walking tour when we came upon the Bethesda Terrace. I love this area of Central Park because it is where most artists congregate. As a former singer, I can appreciate the perfection of the acoustics of the lower passageway, so often sought out by si[...]

Be a Tourist and Take a Tour

We are coming to the end of the fall foliage season in New York City. By the time Thanksgiving rolls around there will be only a few leaves left hanging, much of which will fall at the slightest gust of winter wind. I shared a lot a fall photos last year of Centra[...]

From Parade to Hot Chocolate: Fall Fun in New York City

It's a busy time of the year already here at the Cains. We have one big family trip still up our sleeves this year and I have a few solo trips on my own before hanging my wings, as I do every year, to celebrate the holidays at home with my family. My kids are all[...]

Is a day enough to really experience Massachusetts Is a day enough to really experience Massachusetts’ Berkshire County? Not even close. But if you needed a quick little fix of mountain air, a day trip will do.

Here were my stops on this 24 hour jaunt to the Berkshires:

📍Coffee and a morning bite at @wanderberkshires in Pittsfield, MA
📍@themountlenox author Edith Wharton’s home, for forest strolling, sculpture and flower garden admiring, and summer cottage touring - and for a light lunch in Lenox, MA.
📍Mount Greylock for a drive up to Massachusetts’ highest point (at 3,489 feet) and some epic views.
📍Dinner and drinks at @touristswelcome in North Adams.
📍Sunset views from Pontoosuc Lake near Pittsfield, MA.

Sunday mood is all about recentering, refocusing, Sunday mood is all about recentering, refocusing, and protecting your peace. It’s alright to care, stay informed, get involved AND still carve out moments for self care, however that looks like for you. ❤️
Summer isn’t complete without a visit to @spotte Summer isn’t complete without a visit to @spotted_duck_flx in Penn Yan, NY.

Here you can get frozen custard made from duck eggs, and they also have some dairy free options which are lovely as well.

It can get busy, especially since being named the best ice cream in New York State, so expect long lines during high tourist seasons. But you can also get lucky, as we did, and experience a mellow visit surrounded by cute ducks and chickens and the serenity of farm country living.

Worth the visit either way.
