Gift Ideas for The Female Traveler
Though I don’t normally do gift guides, and there’s no guarantee that I ever will again, I often come across gift ideas that I just must share with you. I am hesitant to call the following gift guide one specifically for moms, because as I see it, it is perfect for pretty much any female traveler I can think of – mom or not, new to travel or pro (and some even more so for men). They put a smile on my face and I think they are great gifts that go to the soul of the traveler.
Body, Mind, and Solo by Teresa Rodriguez
I met Teresa during a trip to Colorado. She is a funny, smart, friendly, and charming woman, who loves to travel and get others excited about it as well. She is the creator of TangoDiva.com, a collection of travel stories by women to inspire and motivate other women to take on travel too. This wonderful book helps women taking on solo travel do so in a way that is spiritual and self-reflecting. It’s a guide to making the most of your journey so that you can pick up lessons that you can carry into other aspects of your life. Though Teresa dedicates this book to her mom, with chapters like Be Brave, Be Generous, and Be Wise, as well as a small section to help you reflect on the steps you took along the way, this book is the perfect gift for any woman in your life who loves to travel or hopes to, and provides her the tools to take it on alone should she want to. Be sure to also check out Teresa’s bestselling travel guide, Fly Solo: The 50 Best Places on Earth for A Girl To Travel Alone.
Minted stationary and gifts
Founded by Mariam Naficy, a mom and designer, the site features beautiful art by professional designers whose work is featured on the site after a highly competitive process, held monthly. Many of the designers are women, and for so many of those who submit their work through Minted, the experience has put them on the road to towards fulfilling a passion and living a dream – who doesn’t love that? You know I do! Though the site offers everything from cards, to calendars, invitations, to stationary, I think the best gift for the travel lover in your life are their travel journals, which arrive individually wrapped and made the perfect personalized gift for my own boys to chronicle their experiences and thoughts during our travels.
Retreat to Hudson Valley, NY
Of course, no gift guide is complete without some actual travel. Whether from NYC or further away, a wonderful escape to Hudson Valley is a different way to experience New York. Treat the special traveler in your life to unique experiences, such as sipping champagne while soaring over the scenic Hudson Valley countryside with Fantasy Balloon Flights out of Middletown; having tea at Clermont State Historic Site in Germantown while surrounded by gorgeous gardens around the beautiful mansion, circa 1750, in Livingston; or relaxing during a spa day at Blissful Spa in Nyack. Whatever your gift may be, there’s no denying that another view of New York in Hudson Valley will be one to remember.(Image: Clermont State Historic Site)
Discover Outdoors for the Animal Lover
This tour company hosts experiences that range to please the foodie, the art lover, the adventurer, and more. But the Hike with Adoptable Hounds is definitely one of my favorites of all their products. The tour includes an hour-long orientation at the Animal Haven in Soho, an orientation that can be used towards their volunteer certification. This is then followed by a day of hiking with some of their most playful, well-behaved, and lovable hounds along Pine Wood and Stony Brook. I would think the toughest challenge wouldn’t be the hiking trails, but rather resisting the urge to take these lovable doggies home. (Image: Discover Outdoors)
