Highlights of The Chelsea Market in NYC

I love Fridays. They symbolize not only the end of the week for me, but also the beginning of a list long family adventures to come. On this Friday afternoon, after meeting up with my husband, we all decided to take a walk over to Chelsea Market. The last time I had taken the time to visit the market the area was still raw in its design. The transformation of the Meatpacking District or Gansevoort Market, was only but beginning with most of the meat-packing plants (if not empty and abandoned) still active and smelling of cold beef and processing plants. The area, having experienced a “rough patch” with the invasion of drugs and prostitution was now being taken over by trendy boutiques, clubs, and restaurants. The Chelsea Market itself was going through some transformations and remodeling, but even then it was such a cool building to visit.

Today, it is difficult to recognize the exterior of the Chelsea Market from what it was back then. The area has completely changed. It is now overrun by all that is chic and trendy, hip and cool. To a New Yorker like me these changes are bittersweet. On one hand, I love having access to such great food, eateries, shops and bars, but on the other hand these also tend to change the raw coolness of the place, sometimes making it more artificial and superficial (and expensive and exclusive).

img_5291The inside of the market hasn’t changed too much, it still has some of my old favorites shops, like the Chelsea Market Basket, Bowery Kitchen Supply, Fat Witch Bakery, and Imports from Marrakesh. The factory style decor has remained and all the new businesses have managed to find functionality and their own style around it because it is, after all, what makes the Market so cool, and it remains a signature of the area.

The Market has no shortage of bakeries.  We stopped into Ruthy’s Bakery to check out their cool cupcakes and cookies.  Their Louis Vuitton cakes are a sight and the boys were in awe of their Spongebob one.

Another great stop is Amy’s Bread for some treats.  The boys got a kick out of watching the bakers through the windows as they tossed the dough and mixed all the ingredients to be backed right there, on the premises, to be sold in the shop right next door.

We browsed at the tasty seafood selection at the Lobster Place and picked up some wine at the Chelsea Wine Vault.

Healing my soul with people I love while trekking Healing my soul with people I love while trekking through glens in search of an eternal flame. 🔥

This hike, in Chestnut Ridge Park, near Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo, NY, is a moderate, 1.5-mile round trip (more or less) that takes you on forest trails, with some stairs, and creek walking; so definitely bring waterproof shoes with grip. This popular spot can get crowded, but if you’re lucky enough to have a solo experience like we did (because of rain), it’s pretty magical.

The entire experience at @deanlanedining felt so incredibly elevated and special, and some might even say unexpected, especially from a farmhouse in rural Dundee, NY.

Husband and wife team, Michael and Lisa Dean create a wonderful farm-to-table prix fix menu, beautifully paired with wines selected by Sommelier @danbrezinsky, who, for as long as the moment allows, further complements the first tastings with a sharing of his deep knowledge and passion for the Finger Lakes wines he serves. The individual pairings per course (4) are optional but I do highly recommend as they influenced each dish and in some cases, my opinion of certain wines.

The vibe is intimate and personally, I enjoyed the early seating as I got to admire the sunset through the large dining room windows throughout my time there.

Their highly coveted B&B is fully booked for 2026, but reservations are open for limited seating at the restaurant, with menus changing weekly.

An absolute highlight, and a must during your visit to the Finger Lakes!

One of the dreamiest of views for me, that I don’t think I will ever tire of, is mist over the hills and lakes. And rainy seasons like these are perfect for such moments.

After an eventful evening (and thank you all for the love and congratulatory messages🤎), I am eager to spend this rainy day back at my computer getting work done.

It’s a wonderful thing to be immersed in a region you love, and to often be tasked to share its stories with others, it’s a whole other thing when regional representatives not only notice it, but reward you for it.

To listen to others get on stage and talk about that work with such admiration and awe still feels surreal and beyond flattering. It’s overwhelming. And I am grateful beyond words, and excited to continue to do the best that I can for as long as I am welcomed and given the opportunity to do so.

So whether it is for work (@braveworldmedia) or on this page, I am happy to share the stories and many reasons why we, along with so many others, decided to make this our home. ❤️

Thanks for the support and for following along.
