Though there is always an endless list of things to do in New York City that are fun and family-friendly, every once in awhile NYCity Mama likes to venture out and take advantage of the wonderful things often found in her neighboring communities.
So, just like she had done months before, Mama and her family ventured out to Jersey City to revisit the Liberty Science Center. The cool thing about the Liberty Science Center is that they have so many amazing things going on and their exhibits are ever changing that you always feel like there is something new to discover when you visit.
Last time Mama visited with her family, it seemed that hours upon hours were spent on just two floors, and one half of the science center. So this time, they were geared to check out some new exhibits, as well as catch one their awesome 3D films.
They started off their visit at the Our Hudson our Home exhibit. The boys loved the huge fish in the oversized tanks, as well as the smaller fish in the other tanks found there. They had fun digging through the sand and lifting objects with the “port crane”, even though they needed their dads help to do so. They also took a moment to admire the views from the deck adjacent to the exhibition room before moving on to see more.
The next exhibit they discovered for the first time was Wonder Why. Here the boys had fun trying to go up a climbing wall, blowing huge soap bubbles, and catch a ball being held up in the air by the Bernouille Blower.
Right next to the Wonder Why exhibit, is the new temporary exhibit Nature Unleashed. The boys really enjoyed this exhibit. The video displaying the volcano eruptions brought on a lot of questions as to why and how and really managed to keep their curious minds entertained.
They would have continued to explore each room, except the time had arrived for the film to start. They had decided to watch Bugs! 3D. The boys happily sat and put on their 3D glasses. The comfortable theater allowed for Mama to keep her little one in the stroller, and the film, close to 30 minutes long was wonderful and was a topic of conversation for hours. It was perfect for all her boys from the 11 year old to the 2.5 year old. Next time they are planning on seeing the Dinosaur film.
As they walked out of the theater, the boys were drawn to the Live Science show Sub-Zero going on right near the entrance. They sat in awe as they watched a young man squeeze a bunch of balloons into a hat full off smoking, freezing liquid nitrogen and than have them expand again when he took them out and they warmed up. They quietly sat through the demonstration, watching intently the entire time.
And just as they thought it couldn’t get any better, they walked right into I Explore. This area is exclusively for the little scientists in the group. It had so many fun things to do, like the ball machine, and the crawling space, and hard hat area, and on and on. They easily spent close to an hour in this space while the boys, and even the adults, played, used their imagination, and discovered how things work.
And yet, even after being there for over two hours, they still didn’t get to see all that the Liberty Science Center has going on! So, as they headed back home, they started thinking about the next time they would return, and the boys, upon hearing this, couldn’t have been happier.
