On a NYC day, very similar to the chilly, cloudy one we are experiencing today, the kids and I set out for some fun. One of my things about fun in the city, is to pin point the places where that fun can be found inexpensively or free.
One such place is the Sony Wonder Technology Lab in Sony Plaza on 56th St and Madison Ave. This 4-story museum is filled with fun and interactive technology, providing kids and their families a glimpse not only of the past, but also of the future.
Admission to the museum is free, though reservations are highly recommended. We did not make a reservation, but were fortunate enough to have arrived on a weekday, only 30 minutes before the next group was scheduled to go up.
Luckily for us, Sony Plaza has enough to entertain a 3 and 4 year old, and their mother. With a huge Spider Man looming behind us, we were able to enjoy some treats from the Illy coffee stand in place (as well as some coffee).
Once we arrived into the museum my kids did have some fun, however, I will admit, that though the museum states it is fun for kids of ALL ages, I would consider my 3 and 4 year old a tad too young to really grasp a lot of their displays. Some of the interactive displays are way too advanced for them, but there still were a handful that they enjoyed, like the Interactive Floor, the Shadow and Sand Garden, and the Sensi-tile.
We still managed to be there for more than an hour, checking everything out, playing with robots, and at times just watching how the older kids played with the exhibits.
So, if you’re stuck at home, on a cloudy and/or chilly day, and want something fun, free (and educational) to do with your kids, definitely check out the Sony Wonder Technology Lab. Also note that even once inside, some exhibits require an additional wait time to use, but so worth it. It’s definitely a fun place!
