Daydreaming of Summer and Road Trips!

The first official day of Summer is Monday, June 21, but we have been planning Summer for months! Most of our planning involves our 2010 Road Trip Adventure!  Last year we packed up the kids in a Volkswagon Routan and made our way from NYC to Missoula, MT.

Somewhere, OH during last year’s road trip.

It was truly an adventure! With a lot more ups then downs. We bonded in such an amazing way as a family and created memories that we hope will last a lifetime, at the very least for our oldest son, and definitely for my husband and I.

We fell in love with the road trip option for our family vacation because it really helped us experience more for our time and money, considering we are such a large family, and we really loved discovering so many new places that we wouldn’t see had we not just hit the road. This year however, we have an additional incentive. We are making our way to San Antonio, TX, with a very important stop in Austin, TX to meet this little boy: my beautiful AND ONLY nephew born almost a year ago in July and whom we have never met : ((

Is it possible to be madly in love with someone you have never met?  Oh yes. Very much so. And because of our crazy love for this beautiful little boy we will once again, pack up our kids, drive through the South of this amazing country, and try to spoil him as much as humanly possible in the short time we will be there!

Of course, I miss his mom and dad too…but well, you know, the baby is just so much cuter!

On our way to the newest little bundle of joy, we will stop at some incredible places.

We will be leaving NYC on July 3rd and will be celebrating July 4th in our nation’s capital, which we believe will be both insane and exciting.

We will make a stop at Colonial Williamsburg, as well as have a splash at Bush Gardens, VA.  We plan on visiting Nashville, TN, and video tape how the relief efforts are doing to help this historical and beloved town recuperate from the horrific floods they suffered not too long ago.

We will eat some BBQ in Memphis and maybe even stop by the Children’s Museum of Memphis, before arriving to Austin, where all I want to do is cuddle and kiss this precious boy…but I know that won’t be all we will do as I can’t tell you how many times I have heard say that Austin is just a wonderful, wonderful town.

And then we plan on traveling to San Antonio to finally experience the wonders of the Riverwalk at night.

We will be arriving to New Orleans just in time for the Shakespeare Festival. we hope to dine at the fabulous French Quater, but because we will also be there during my middle son’s 5th birthday, we hope to discover some of the other family friendly activities, such as Mardi Gras World or the Audubon Zoo, which he might really love.

From there we will move on to Asheville, NC where we will slow down and take in the sights before taking the trip back home to NYC.

It will be an insane half of a month for us. A lot of driving, and we expect, a lot of fun!

We hope you will join us throughout our journey as we will tweet, blog, and vlog along the way. Of course, we are open to any fun suggestions as well, so send them along!

On my previous visit to The Berkshires, I shared a On my previous visit to The Berkshires, I shared a phenomenal dining experience at Tourists Welcome in North Adam’s, MA.

And I have two more wonderful spots to add to my growing list….alreasy popular with those in the know, so I am just chiming in to further affirm all the accolades.

Starting with @havencafebakery in Lenox, MA. Super friendly staff, killer chai (and an awesome tea selection) and a small but delightfully seasonal menu. Felt super “homemade” in the yummy, cozy way that makes you feel nostalgic.

My mind was blown at @statefoodndrink in North Adams, MA. Come on Mondays and experience a Southern classics menu, which …zomg…so good! I cried a little inside to be missing out on their Vietnamese night (Tuesday) but promised Chef Tu Le I would be back for that and their weekend brunch 🙌🏾. The vibe is also welcoming, even for such a massive, factory space, and it felt fun with several community-focused happenings taking place in the surrounding spaces. An immediate favorite and a must on your next trip to The Berkshires!

Come with me on a little hike in the Berkshires, M Come with me on a little hike in the Berkshires, MA with no trending audio as distraction.

The Cascades Trail is an easy 2.1 mile hike in and out in the City of North Adams. We all needed a quiet little escape into the woods along a rushing brook, over a few wooden bridges and fallen foliage and towards a small cascade.

There are countless hikes for every type of adventure-seeker, but when the goal is just a stroll and a moment of connection with nature and your thoughts, there are plenty of those trails too.

Peaceful morning. ❤️ We’re going on a little Peaceful morning. ❤️ We’re going on a little getaway to the Berkshires with our youngest and looking forward to a much needed mini-vacation.

And while a little escape is always nice, waking up to the stunning beauty of the place we call home is such a gift.

A message about yesterday’s event: Happy Monday A message about yesterday’s event:

Happy Monday, y’all. Woke up in time to enjoy the soft glow of sunlight that shines its way around our house in the morning, and sipped on a cafecito without being rushed for anything. So already today is a win.

Yesterday we worked our longest day yet for our little coffee cart that could (7 hours!!!) at the Heritage Fiesta in Ithaca, NY.

Though we were ready for a crowd, the reception was also unexpected because there was a popular coffee shop just steps away.

But we had Cómodo Fam stop by, family (who also fed us 🙏🏾), and soooo many members of the Latinx and BIPOC community who were just excited to see a small business like ours representing.

I want to share that we were ALL worried about potential harassment and assault by 🧊and fliers were handed out to prepare us. And you would think that it would’ve intimidated the community enough to not come out…BUT WE DID. In numbers.

And for hours that little parking lot next to Press Bay Alley was packed with all sorts of Latinx and non-Latinx community members, eating, laughing, dancing, singing, and drinking all the cafecitos and refreshers we had to offer. Literally. We went home cleaned out!

All this to say that we are all aware of the threats but we also understand the power and importance of coming together as a community and a people. By no means are we all the same, and Lord knows a lot of Latinos have a lot of self-reflecting to do based on the choices they made, but yesterday was a testament to the best of us, and I thank @yenospina and @lcatompkins for putting together such a wonderful event, for inviting @cafecomodony to be a part of it, and to all the friends, old and new, who came out to support us and la cultura.

This cloudy morning seems to have calmed things down a bit, but not for long I am sure. These families work hard!

Bonus: they set up roadside stands so we can purchase and taste them 🍇 I highly recommend picking some up if you see some in your drive.
