Lego Store, Rockefeller Center

Exciting news!  Lego is opening up shop at Rockefeller Center here in New York City. Grand opening ceremonies will take place from Thursday, June 29th through July 1.

Lego organizers have been busy working and putting together all the final details for the grand event and I had the opportunity to get a sneak peak into this wonderful new locale.

Upon entering, visitors will be greeted by scenes similar to the ones surrounding them outside. Featured displays highlight the beautiful art and architecture of its new home, including a centerpiece giving homage to Rockefeller Center (with a few funny twists). With more than 50 custom New York inspired Lego models, mosaics, and dioramas, as well as exclusive New York-themed merchandise throughout, Lego and New York lovers will be pretty pleased.

Smaller displays, often designed with the younger, and shorter visitors in mind also pay tribute to the many wonderful NYC scenes we are recognized throughout the world for.

I will confess that buying Lego in my home has not always been the smartest, nor wisest of choices. With two preschoolers the pieces end up everywhere. One hour of Lego playing leads to days upon days of Lego clean up.

However, they love it, engaging their creativity and imagination every time, which really makes it all worth it. And, when on the road, Lego makes for a good chunk of quiet time in the car.

Like in other Lego stores nation-wide, this store will also host parties and events, a space for which can be found on their very colorful second floor. Not only will guests have access to computers for creating ideas and a private space to meet other Lego Fan Club Members or host the Monthly Mini Model Build, but they will also be surrounded by the best views Rockefeller Center can offer.

Lego is inviting everyone to pass during their opening celebration to meet the Lego Master Model Builders and help them build a giant, 15-foot apple, entirely out of Lego bricks!

For more information about the event, including special offers and times, please visit the Lego website.

You can also find Lego at some of our other favorite Manhattan toys stores, such as Toys R Us in Times Square and FAO Shwartz on 5th Avenue. Other New York area Lego stores can be found at Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden City, NY (opened April 9, 2010) and Queens Center Mall, Elmhurts, NY (Grand Opening July 9 through July 11, 2010).

Update: We went, we bought, we conquered!!  My kids LOVED this store as predicted in my review. It’s definitely a treat to visit!

When I spoke to a Lego rep he told me they would be taking them down almost immediately after. However, I have to wonder if that's true. I wouldn't expect to see them there after this weekend, but if you get there and they are, let me know!

We found this spot a few years ago, before we moved to the area full time while at a rental nearby and immediately fell in love with its community and cozy vibe, and delicious coffee.

It’s even cuter than when we first visited while all the reasons we love it remain. Always worth a stop when in Geneva.
