Discovery of a Chocolate World in Hershey, PA

The East Coast has been hit with a lot of rain these past few weekends, and this coming weekend will be no exception. However, we have been really fortunate in getting out to enjoy some time during our Road Trip Weekends, at least a day or two with sunshine allowing for lots of fun adventures.

Our latest road trip lead us to Hershey, PA. The family and I drove out later in the afternoon on a Friday, about a 3-hour drive from NYC.

When we arrived to Hershey there was still some sunlight left to enjoy and so we decided to make an impromptu stop in Hershey’s Chocolate World. I hadn’t researched it, or really even heard about it, so this was a complete mystery to us – but not anymore. The kids will agree, making that stop was one of the best decisions of the weekend.

Hershey’s Chocolate World has a great selection of activities around, what else? Hershey’s chocolate!

There are several admission packages you can choose from to include either some or all of the various attractions offered there. From the Hershey’s Really Big 3-D Show to the Hershey’s Dessert Creation Studio to the Hershey’s Chocolate Tasting Adventure, just to name a few.

We did the 3D show, the Hershey’s Create Your Own Candy Bar, and the Hershey’s Great American Chocolate Tour (free – and we did this one twice!).

The entire family really loved creating our own candy bar. We each chose different ones. Guests have selections such as white, milk, or dark chocolate as well as a variation of fillings, like nuts, cookie crumbs, and chocolate chips, with or without sprinkles on top.

After designing our very own packaging, we enjoyed watching the candy go through a conveyor belt fulfilling the specific orders of our sweet creations. That was definitely a fun time!

Chocolate World also has a few bakery stops where you can buy freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, brownies, cup cakes – you name it, they’ve got it. And we got to enjoy taking a few pics with some Hershey’s characters and browsing through their gift shops.

Before we realized it, it was dark outside and the kids were starting to feel hungry (despite all the small chocolate treats the pass out along the way).

I honestly can’t think of a more fun way to kick-off our weekend at Hershey. Though I don’t have much of a sweet tooth (my own chocolate bar creation sits waiting for me to take the first bite still), I did become giddy with excitement to be surrounded by so much sweet fun. Till this day, kids are talking about Chocolate World, our unexpected family-fun adventure.

Did you do the tasting in the cafe? That was out of this world.

You know, I may be naive, but I like that Hershey's commitment to charity is part of its corporate philosophy from the beginning, that they've acquired fair trade lines, and that they source some of their materials locally. It would be great if they do more and use their position to lead a change in the way cocoa is produced.

Hi Candace, we didn't do that tasting because we were with the kids and didn't think we would be able to peacefully enjoy it as much but the smell of the place was pretty heavenly! Next time for sure!

Hubby took this photo of me, and I kinda love it, Hubby took this photo of me, and I kinda love it, though photos or videos of me are not really my favorite.

I like that it shows me genuinely happy in this moment. I like that it shows how far I’ve come in life….in years.

And thinking of what I have already accomplished, in the years I have lived so far, makes whatever were wasted moments feel smaller over time. And that feels lucky.

I spend so much time capturing the joy of others and feel loved to have someone capture a moment in joy of me. Thanks, @travisjcain, for seeing me with so much love.
Let’s be real: Halloween Season comes and goes t Let’s be real: Halloween Season comes and goes too fast, so if you missed it, I wanted to share this fun Halloween experience to add to your bucket list for next year: the @Naumkeag Pumpkin Show, in the Berkshires’ Stockbridge, MA.

🎃 Book your tix and time slot online (later times are the most popular).
🎃 Park at a designated spot in Downtown Stockbridge and take a short bus ride to Naumkeag, a 44-room Gilded Age “cottage” with 8 acres of awe-inspiring natural beauty, including public gardens.
🎃 Tour the gardens, and through some indoor space to view over 1500 mums, carved displays, and more!
🎃 This is a family-friendly experience, and accessibility is limited, including for strollers and wheelchairs.
🎃 On non-events occasions and depending on weather, the property is available for pre-booked tours.
🎃 Missed Halloween? Book a tour of their Winter Lights holiday displays which kicks off end of November!

Is a day enough to really experience Massachusetts Is a day enough to really experience Massachusetts’ Berkshire County? Not even close. But if you needed a quick little fix of mountain air, a day trip will do.

Here were my stops on this 24 hour jaunt to the Berkshires:

📍Coffee and a morning bite at @wanderberkshires in Pittsfield, MA
📍@themountlenox author Edith Wharton’s home, for forest strolling, sculpture and flower garden admiring, and summer cottage touring - and for a light lunch in Lenox, MA.
📍Mount Greylock for a drive up to Massachusetts’ highest point (at 3,489 feet) and some epic views.
📍Dinner and drinks at @touristswelcome in North Adams.
📍Sunset views from Pontoosuc Lake near Pittsfield, MA.

On my previous visit to The Berkshires, I shared a On my previous visit to The Berkshires, I shared a phenomenal dining experience at Tourists Welcome in North Adam’s, MA.

And I have two more wonderful spots to add to my growing list….alreasy popular with those in the know, so I am just chiming in to further affirm all the accolades.

Starting with @havencafebakery in Lenox, MA. Super friendly staff, killer chai (and an awesome tea selection) and a small but delightfully seasonal menu. Felt super “homemade” in the yummy, cozy way that makes you feel nostalgic.

My mind was blown at @statefoodndrink in North Adams, MA. Come on Mondays and experience a Southern classics menu, which …zomg…so good! I cried a little inside to be missing out on their Vietnamese night (Tuesday) but promised Chef Tu Le I would be back for that and their weekend brunch 🙌🏾. The vibe is also welcoming, even for such a massive, factory space, and it felt fun with several community-focused happenings taking place in the surrounding spaces. An immediate favorite and a must on your next trip to The Berkshires!
