Eating Your Way Through Napa, CA

I know you think that if anyone is going to write anything about Napa Valley in California that they would make it a point to immediately highlight what Napa is best known for: wine. I promise I have that coming, but that which is closest to my foodie heart is the agricultural community here which goes beyond spirits and demonstrates its equal commitment to food, specifically that which se[...]

Beaver Creek Mountain, Colorado Photography

Even though we are still feeling the chill in the air, I can't help but think of the beauty of the warmer months to come. Though I do have hopes to hit the beach, my heart still flutters at the thought of a scene of a different kind: the Colorado Rockies, specifically as seen during my visit last year to Beaver Creek, where somewhere between long hikes through aspen forests and the smell o[...]

Adventures Galore at Finger Lakes, New York

The first time I heard about the Finger Lakes  in upstate New York was while sipping on one of their delicious red wines and laughing it up with one of their lovely tourism representatives - the ladies are indeed lovely, but the wine definitely helped bring on the laughter. At first I thought it was no more than just a lovely wine area with its over 100 world class wineries, making it the[...]

Planning a Romantic Trip without The Kids in Tow

When my husband and I met, I was already a single mom. I can count in one hand and less than 3 fingers how many times we have been away alone together. I mean, far away...not just away on date night. It's tough and expensive to take a trip without the kids, especially when they were smaller and because we don't have family near by to take care of them for us. And even with all the travel[...]

20 Lessons from 2011

Resolutions for the New Year? I have none. But I do have lessons from last year that I am carrying over to this one. If I must resolve to anything, it would be to not forget them and remember them as I venture into what I expect to be an exciting time for me and my family. Time has a way of passing by so quickly. It's so easy to forget so it's important for me to write them down.[...]

A Girlfriend Getaway TO Travaasa Austin, TX

Traveling with my favorite girlfriends is something I have really enjoyed doing this year. There is nothing like discovering new destinations and sharing powerful experiences with your bestie by your side. On my most recent trip, I got to travel with my sister-in-law, Toni and the destination we got to discover together was the experiential hotel and spa, Travaasa in Austin, TX. The name[...]

Owning Your Voice

This site, where I have shared so much with you and in turn have learned so much from you all, has turned 3 years old. To think that in December of 2008 I simply started writing with the intention of staying connected to our family out-of-state and share with them what our new lives back in NYC from Wisconsin, and with me as a stay at home mom (yes, this was what I was supposed to do) was[...]

Christmas Tree Hunting at Hidden Pond Tree Farm, NJ

My absolute favorite thing to do almost immediately after Thanksgiving is head out to a Christmas tree farm with my entire crew to cut down our tree. We prefer to cut our own when we can, so it is one of the options we look for when deciding what farm we will visit. We also really enjoy discovering new places. So, since starting this blog (almost 3 years ago!) here is the list of places[...]

Views of Magical Santa Fe, New Mexico

When I told my husband that I would be visiting Santa Fe, New Mexico he spoke about his visit some years ago and how magical he felt it all was. The most I had heard about Santa Fe was how incredible the spas were, and what a great artist community it had, but not much else. So, for example, I was surprised to learn that at the time of my visit I would have put away my shorts and tank tops[...]

La Posada de Santa Fe, New Mexico

One of the things that I loved the most about my visit to Santa Fe, NM was the sense of history I felt when walking along the streets and in speaking to the people I met during my visit. My friend Sandra and stayed at La Posada, a RockResort, and this only served to really compliment  that experience. The resort is a gorgeous retreat right in the middle of Santa Fe, only steps from shops,[...]

With its airy feel, with cozy reading nooks and friendly vibes, I could’ve easily spent hours here. Instead, I walked away with some new reads and excitement for my return.

📍Clifton Springs is a 45 min drive from Rochester and a little over 30 mins from Penn Yan, NY.

And the mural is complete! This year, @travisjcain And the mural is complete! This year, @travisjcain was invited to participate in MuralFest hosted by @communityartselmira. His theme was in honor of the Seneca Indigenous culture and their remaining influence on the Finger Lakes and so much of North America.

In the mural you will see depictions of a turtle at center, which is sacred and is believed to be the protector and nurturer of life. The 13 moon cycles is the traditional lunar calendar. Also depicted are long houses, traditional foods such as corn, and an eagle, which serves as a messenger to the Creator and a protector of the Haudenosaunee.

The mural is already marked by the impact of all the rain we had since he started, but today he, @liamcain._ , and @toniiocain worked throughout the day in this very hot sun to complete it. And I couldn’t be prouder or love it more!

If you want to see the mural in person, it is located on the railway wall along Washington Ave. and Lake St. in Elmira, NY across from the old Big Lots parking lot.

Congratulations to Travis and all the artists!
