Family Hike along the Delaware Water Gap

As I take on this homeschooling journey with my kids, I am slowly starting to step away from the computer and getting to what we enjoy the most, which is learning through experiences and travel. What I am loving so far, besides my boys' enthusiasm and ability to go with the flow our days, is that I am getting back to how I started my journey in blogging a few years ago, which is taking not[...]

Overcoming the Unexpected in Travel

There are so many lessons I try to teach my boys when we travel. Some have to do with travel itself (always carry the essentials with you; stick to drinking water on flying days, and don't ever be afraid to ask for directions or help). Others have more to do with patience, tolerance, and making the best of every day, especially days of travel. Life can be hard enough without us contributin[...]

Falling in love with Glacier National Park

Before I made my way to Glacier National Park, the oooh's and ahhh's and expressed envy from those whom I told about my travels made it clear that I was in for a treat. Since first setting foot in a national park in 2009, I have yet to find one I didn't love. But my affection has always been for something different as it is already my experience that all the parks have something unique[...]

Nature finds for weekend fun in New Jersey

This is one of the first years we have been home all summer. We have loved it though at first it was hard. For my kids the start was bumpy because they suddenly found themselves with not much to do (I also didn't sign them up for all-summer camp!) and most of their friends had gone away somewhere. The start was a bit bumpy for me too, home all day with two restless boys and tons of wor[...]

A Visit to Acadia National Park

The National Parks are in a constant threat of abolishment, now more than ever. I can't imagine, even as someone who discovered her love for them so much later in her life, what I would do without their healing power, their ability to make me feel whole and connected. Our trip recent national park trip brought us to a new discovery: Acadia National Park. read more[...]

My Kids’ First Trip to the Dominican Republic: Heritage, Race, and Breaking the Cycle

We were on a bus on our way to do some volunteer work with other travelers from the Fathom cruise. Our project leader, a local employed by the organization heading the activity, was pointing out highlights of Sosua, the beach town we were entering and where we would do our work. "And here is one of the first synagogues established in the Dominican Republic," she exclaimed proudly. The g[...]

Cruising with Fathom Travel & Volunteering in the Dominican Republic

It's taking me a bit to share my experiences while cruising to and volunteering in the Dominican Republic with Fathom Travel because it was such an overwhelming experience on so many levels. First, it was the very first time my youngest boys had visited the country. Yes, I lived there for many years (from 9 to 18) and yes, my father and other family still live there, and though I have been[...]

Highlights of Dijon, France

It was a beautiful summer day when I arrived to Dijon, France. I quickly dropped off my bags in my hotel room at the trendy, Michelin rated Le Chapeau Rouge, slipped into some comfortable walking shoes and headed out. I hadn't been to this beautiful city in two years but I remembered how much I enjoyed walking through it. I also noticed how much it had changed during that time. Trams w[...]

Two beautiful days at Lake Como, Italy

One of the highlights of our road trip through northern Italy was our stay in Lake Como. Most of our stops were in the Lombardy region, where there are lakes galore. Lake Como, the third largest lake in Italy and one of the deepest, is heavily visited by locals and tourists alike, especially during the summer months. Finding a place to stay can be difficult, and though parking is diff[...]

The Best of Steamboat, CO Summers – A Photo Tour

I have enjoyed visiting Colorado in the winter in the past but it is no secret that summers are my favorite and when it comes to finding fun things to do, Steamboat Springs delivers. And the word is out. It used to be that the energy of the town and even that of the Steamboat Resort was limited to the colder months. Though it still is, when compared to the bustle of skiers and snow lov[...]

Josie update: her most recent vet visit was stella Josie update: her most recent vet visit was stellar. She’s healthy and happy and has gained 5 whole pounds, which is great because she came to us a little underweight probably from stress.

She is a huge fan of cuddles and likes to start calming things down around 9PM - seriously, she INSISTS. She’s a big fan of sneakers, which has really encouraged everyone to not leave theirs just laying around (thanks, Josie)! She is a quick learner, quicker if treats are involved and an absolute sweetheart with other pups.

She’s a big fan of pup cups, car rides, and long walks in the park, but not of lakes, motorcycles, or crickets. 😂

And we love her a billion.
These last days of summer to me feel like the swee These last days of summer to me feel like the sweetest. I hurry to take in every warm sun beam even as the days become shorter. I check my local farmstands for the bounty of the season, even as the early harvest plenty slowly take over. I want to dip into the lakes one more time before they chill up again, and I want to see all my friends outside before we slowly retreat into hibernation. Don’t get me wrong, autumn is my absolute favorite season, but the warmth of summer, the sounds of children still at play, the beautiful long days it gifts us are things I appreciate.

So as eager as we might be for what’s to come let’s not take for granted what still remains. And that we are so lucky to experience it here in this beautiful place we call home. So many people have to leave soon. We’re the lucky ones who get to stay.

Finally had a chance to stop into @thefastracks by Finally had a chance to stop into @thefastracks by @julietsfinds to congratulate her on her sweet shop and journey. If you have been following Juliet, you know she is a pro at thrifting amazing finds, and now you get to enjoy from it all. But I have especially loved following her journey into finding her shop, turning it into what it has become, and now seeing it packed with goodies and customers.

Bravo, Juliet! So happy for you and our community, and wishing you continued success! Go give her some love! She’s right on Bridge St. in Corning!

Time feels like it’s slipping away. Today marks Time feels like it’s slipping away. Today marks one whole month since adopting our sweet little Josie and already we can’t imagine our lives without her in it. How I love her. 💕🐾The most perfect dog in all the world.

Our youngest boys go back to college and I feel like we only just picked them up for summer break.

Summer’s end is near, and while there are a few things I still want and need to do, I will confess I am not entirely sad about it.

Life is a whirlwind. I have no clear view of what’s next or where I am going, but I have a goal 🤷🏾‍♀️So, yay? I am however really happy. There’s something about the unpredictable that I love, and hate.

If only time would slow down just a little bit. I don’t want to miss a thing. But it’s all moving so fast, I am afraid I often do.

Hope you are having better luck at holding on to the moments before they become memories.
Epic morning check list: First day’s screening o Epic morning check list: First day’s screening of The Odyssey in Rochester’s IMAX theater, followed by brekkie and a cafecito or two at @montgomerycourtcoffee, one of our bucket list cafes!

Bonus: getting to connect in person with owner Colin, and walking away with a bag of his Brazil roast, which is 😘👌🏾as a cold brew. The breakfast burritos are a must, but we are late to this game cause everyone already knows, and the vibe is ✨it✨.

If you haven’t already, add them to your list of must-visit cafes in ROC…and yes, the movie was awesome.
