Fall Road Trippin’ to the Finger Lakes

Sometimes one just needs to get away. These past couple of months I have been home working and dealing with all the fun of getting the kids acclimated to school and schedules and routines. In between, my days have been consumed with work and emails and deadlines.[...]

Searching for Waterfalls in New Jersey

One of things that I have enjoyed the most about blogging since I started was sharing what I discovered in my everyday life with my kids. Somehow, I lost a little bit of this - the joy of the everyday discoveries. Granted, it has been because we've traveled to plac[...]

Philadelphia with Kids in Tow

I haven't been to Philadelphia in years, and my husband - who is from Wisconsin - has always wanted to check it out. Because we had such a great 4th of July in Washington, DC a couple of years back, we thought it would be fun to celebrate the 4th in yet another ver[...]

The Six Best Surf Towns in the U.S.

Surfing is different from other sports in that it can’t be done just anywhere. It’s so dependent on the weather and the waves that only a handful of beaches stand out as excellent surf spots. This exclusive nature turns hardcore surfers into nomads, traveling t[...]

Playing Tourists in NYC with Kids in Tow

A weekend in NYC is always a fun way to get away from our daily routine and take a mini-vacation without going far at all. Even when we lived in Manhattan, staying in NYC hotels for a night or two was a fun activity for us, as it allowed to take in the city as tour[...]

Where to Stay in Maui, HI

On my visit to Maui, HI, I had the great opportunity to do some hotel hopping, which was pretty great because I was able to get a feel for a few lodging options on the island. The various options I got to experience appeal to a nice variety of travelers, and their[...]

Singing at The Apollo with Tyrese and Other Crazy Dreams Come True

Ok. Let me clarify: I didn't sing with actor, singer Tyrese Gibson - at the same time - but he performed on the same stage, on the same night that I performed at the Apollo's Amateur Night. At the time I was a single mom, and too old already to be seriously consid[...]

Costa Rica, Travel Photography

Costa Rica helped us identify happiness in a way that we usually take for granted. That is our greatest take away and the biggest gift from our recent visit. I share more on that in Happiness, Tico Style: Adventures in Costa Rica. Below are some of the images tha[...]

Have you ever been to a shop so pretty and cozy it Have you ever been to a shop so pretty and cozy it makes you emotional? In NYC, @niconeco_zakkaya is up there as a fave for me.

This Japanese-inspired stationary boutique in the East Village gives me all the fuzzy feels and I was sad to hear that after 8 years unharmed, their charming shop sign was vandalized.

They are calling on a creative illustrator who might be interested in bringing a new one to life. Check their Insta for more. And as always, support, shop, and give all the love to small businesses wherever you live and your travels may take you. And next time you are in the East Village, go check them out, and their cafe in Williamsburg, @loafonpaperny (see my reel on them). My 🫶🏾 to this little shop.

We did what one does when the weather is just righ We did what one does when the weather is just right and the sun is shining over Brooklyn 🌞

Rode the ferry a few minutes from Dumbo to Williamsburg for a stroll and some delicious coffee.

Walked through Domino Park and into @birdeenyc, where I just had to taste a few of their delicious pastries and churro latte!

Then strolled over to @loafonpaperny and shopped for some pretty stationary goodies while sipping on their Earl Grey Matcha.

The perfect way to kick off a stunning day in the city!

My list of fave cafes continues to grow, and I am saving them in my “NY Cafes” highlights for those who are following along. ☕️

Healing my soul with people I love while trekking Healing my soul with people I love while trekking through glens in search of an eternal flame. 🔥

This hike, in Chestnut Ridge Park, near Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo, NY, is a moderate, 1.5-mile round trip (more or less) that takes you on forest trails, with some stairs, and creek walking; so definitely bring waterproof shoes with grip. This popular spot can get crowded, but if you’re lucky enough to have a solo experience like we did (because of rain), it’s pretty magical.
The most perfect date night in the most perfect li The most perfect date night in the most perfect little bistro in the most perfect New York destination. No, not NYC. The Finger Lakes.

The entire experience at @deanlanedining felt so incredibly elevated and special, and some might even say unexpected, especially from a farmhouse in rural Dundee, NY.

Husband and wife team, Michael and Lisa Dean create a wonderful farm-to-table prix fix menu, beautifully paired with wines selected by Sommelier @danbrezinsky, who, for as long as the moment allows, further complements the first tastings with a sharing of his deep knowledge and passion for the Finger Lakes wines he serves. The individual pairings per course (4) are optional but I do highly recommend as they influenced each dish and in some cases, my opinion of certain wines.

The vibe is intimate and personally, I enjoyed the early seating as I got to admire the sunset through the large dining room windows throughout my time there.

Their highly coveted B&B is fully booked for 2026, but reservations are open for limited seating at the restaurant, with menus changing weekly.

An absolute highlight, and a must during your visit to the Finger Lakes!
