A Morning Adventure at Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas

My 12 year and I woke up today ready to head out for a swim before the day’s activities.  However, as we made our way out of the Royal Tower (where we are staying), we became distracted by how everything looks when lit by the bright warm sun of the Bahamas and by the incredible landscape in the area.

We decided to walk through the tunnels of The Dig again, which was a totally different experience this time around. The beams of sunlight gleaming into the water gave the entire place a different feel. Plus it was a lot of fun watching the staff surf in the tanks to care for the fish and other sea animals.

While walking through the amazing lobby we saw designs of the timeshares here at Atlantis. We also walked through the casino. The casino hosts amazing glass sculptures designed by artist Dale Chihuly.  The main sculture, appropriately designed to fit the namesake and theme of the casino (Temple of The Sun), is a breathtaking array of oranges, reds, and yellows, commanding your attention as you walk by.  Absolutely gorgeous.

Though I am not a big fan of casinos, I do understand many travelers enjoy them. I appreciate that Atlantis caters to this traveler by offering them a nice space, that doesn’t over power the feel of the place.

We also walked by the gorgeous beaches. The water is so clear and warm, it just really made me wish my little ones were here as well. It’s Winter here also, so the those who live here consider this windy weather “cold”…but for my son and I it was heaven. The resort is so big that it would be difficult to get bored here. There is so much to see and do, and though you do have to pay a nominal fee for some of the activities, we really just spent most of the morning walking around and discovering new places at every bend. We noticed a lot of families with kids of all ages.  Some had little babies, others had teens, tweens…and a lot of strollers.  It was nice to see families walking around in the morning, sharing this amazing experience with their little ones. Before we knew it, it was time to meet our group and we hand’t even got our planned swimming done!

We met up with our group for brunch. We looked down and couldn’t believe the spread they had for us there!  Everything one could ever possibly want for brunch…or ever…was laid out. Even various colored chocolate fondue. I tried it all…but strictly for you, my darling readers, just so I could accurately describe it all…you know. All for you.  And I have to say, it was all very good!

Once we had brunch and chatted, we had the opportunity to listen to Sol Kerzner, the creator and visionary force behind the Atlantis enterprise. A soft spoken man, he addressed the children saying, “We hope you enjoy your experience at Atlantis so much that you will bring your mommies and daddies back again.” To which many of the children (and their parents) applauded. Then they unveiled the scuba diver, L.A.N.S.E., designed and created by the Lego master builders and brought to Atlantis for all to enjoy. This unveiling was only the first sign of the amazing partnership between Lego and Atlantis forged to focus on ways in which the traveling family’s experience, in particular the children, could be a magical one when staying at the Atlantis resorts.

As we took pictures and watched the kids’ reaction to the huge Lego sculpture in the water with the fish, we heard drumming. And soon we had a group of children from dancing to the local beats of the island played by the young boys behind them, a group of beautiful Bahamian little girls, dressed in bright dresses and hand made crowns fill the air with festivity. The children came from Claridge Primary School, of Nassau, with kids from ages 7-12 years old made up the group of dancers and instrument players. The school is headed by Principal Rose and Vice Principal Chisholm, whom I met and spoke to. Ms. Chilholm was not only very proud of her students, but also very excited to talk to me about them and their talents.

We all couldn’t help but dance and smile. It was truly a welcoming and beautiful sight. Kim Orlando, from Traveling Mom, told me that someone had told her that the kids got to perform for us because they had won a competition recently. They were awesome and what a way to kick off our day!

We were instructed to follow them as they led us through the hotel and past other guests, right to the new Atlantis Kids Adventure, a kids club recently opened taking into consideration the desires and needs of the visiting child guest.

Check out tomorrow as I highlight the features of this new kids club and share with you the awesome things awaiting your kids upon visiting Atlantis Paradise Island. I’ll also tell you more about our amazing adventures here!

Disclosure: This adventured was fully sponsored by Atlantis, Jet Blue, Lego. However, the views and opinions shared in this post are strictly my own.

I LOVE Atlantis. Fell in love with the place while attending a friend's destination wedding in '05. I bought my wife to be's engagement ring while I was there. I couldn't get enough of the all you can eat breakfast which I though cost too much, but I kept going back. I won and lost over and over again at the casino, I must've taken 1000 pics of their aquarium and I kept going down the water slide like a kid does at a park. At night I enjoyed the moonlit Caribbean sky in the company of my lady love. Good times…good times…

Hubby and I recently went to check out office spac Hubby and I recently went to check out office spaces for our business. We (I) started getting caught up in the perceptions of what other people might think about our business, or rather, how successful or serious it was with us operating it from our home. So, in order to keep up with the Joneses, we went out and searched. And immediately were like, "Nope."

One, it was an additional expense that we were taking on to convince other people of whatever we (I) thought they needed to be convinced of. And two, it felt like....well, like working out of an office, something which I personally haven't done in over a decade (almost two now) and which my husband just escaped from!

And lastly, we like to go out into the communities that our clients serve, but also that we live in, and get to experience it all ourselves. It makes us a great agency.

I share all of this because I am slowly coming to accept that there will always be those who will make a determination of who we are as people, as professionals, as a business simply from what they think they know, not from actuality...and..we (I) am still working on breaking down the toxic traits of corporate / professional influence and narratives.

As once a full-time travel blogger, I experienced first hand what it is to be dismissed and not taken seriously. But, because of my travel blogging work, I have visit over 40 countries (and still counting) and have been published and spoken on stages around the world. That doesn't just happen.

All this to say, as I (we) move away from renting an office in order to be taken more seriously by the corporate world...and save ourselves some money in the process...we are reminded to work on ourselves and on being our own biggest cheerleaders and advocates. Sure, we seek out support and mentorship and always work on learning and refining our skill. But can't pay attention to what others might be thinking. It will never be an accurate portrayal.

And a lesson to never, ever spend more money than we have to just to convince others how serious we are in our commitment to our work. In the meantime, our current office spaces are working out just fine.

Life is too short and time too precious, so make sure to spend it with people who bring you joy and make you laugh. Whether it’s one person or more…it’s not the number of people, but the quality and kindness of their hearts that counts.

Here are some of the kind, sweet friendships we’ve been so lucky to have cultivated in our new home. Kisses and hugs @haejones32, @sarahloublagg, @nevetsretlaw, and @jerakahheady.

Till our next gathering!

My happy place: the farmers market. It’s the sea My happy place: the farmers market. It’s the season for all the fresh, local, delicious goodness of the Finger Lakes to take center stage.

The region has a lot more than fried and fast food to offer locals and visitors. The vast amount of organic and locally sourced food is something that is really celebrated here. Even more so the fact that it is accessible and not exclusive to the privileged.

From cider to cheese to meats and veggies…all local, all from a passionate farming community.

Oh, then, the artisans. *swoon* So much handcrafted beauty. For example, this beautiful hat from @easylivinghats. I have been wanting one of her hats forever and finally got not one but two! And her team, seen here, is so sweet and helped me find the right fit. Support local, shop small, be happy in the process. 📸@ithacafarmersmarket.

Today I took a stroll into the pavilion of the @ithacafarmersmarket. There was no market today, and though still a lovely space when empty, nothing compares when the market is buzzing with food purveyors and food-lovers! It is exciting and a favorite pastime of ours. Even more fun is when there is a special event happening!

And with that, I want to let you all know about the upcoming @tasteoftheflx taking place on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the Ithaca Farmers Market and offer you a discount code for your ticket! Use BRAVE20 for $20 off of either ticket tier.

The event will feature 50 + vendors, music in 3 acts, and a full evening of celebration! Taste of the Finger Lakes serves the dual purposes of showcasing the dynamic Finger Lakes food and beverage industry while raising funds for 3 non-profits doing the important work of improving access to healthy food across the region. Local, good food for a good cause...the best combination!
