The Market Place in Asheville, NC

During my last trip to Asheville, NC, I made it a point to check out at least of few favorite local eateries since I missed out on the experience before.

I was delighted that my first experience would be The Market Place, headed by Chef /Owner William Dissen. The Market Place is known for its farm-to-table concept, something that was established by its previous owner, Chef Mark Robenstein and is carried out still and continually improved by Chef Dissen.

In speaking with Chef Dissen during my visit, his passion and commitment to stay local were clear even if, he admitted, this required more time and attention to guarantee that what he serves his guests is the best the local farmers and food purveyors have to offer. But, he also added, it helps build and solidify his relationships with local farmers, people he relies on to always keep him informed and connected with the very best there is, which he can then help bring to the table for our enjoyment.

The restaurant was undergoing a slight renovation when I visited, but the bones of the place were pretty impressive and made for a relaxing, comfortable environment. Various local artistic pieces are seen throughout, either hanging on the wall, or off of light fixtures. One can see that Chef Dissen, originally from West Virginia, has embraced the beauty, people, and overall community of Asheville.

The service was friendly and personal. Our waiter was not only very much committed to delivering the best service, but had a great amount of knowledge about every dish he served us. A waiter that is passionate about the food he serves is a rarity indeed, and a huge compliment to any dining experience to say the least.

I did not get enough of The Market Place. The food was incredibly prepared, fresh and of course, perfectly in season. All items on the menu are gathered from within 100 miles of the restaurant and changes quite regularly to meet the supply that is available and attainable. Which makes it more exciting to think that a regular visit would feel like a new one each time.

I highly encourage a visit to Asheville, NC in general. Such a beautiful destination and while there, take a moment to enjoy the experience that is The Market Place. I love what they are doing both in and out of the kitchen, and applaud Chef Dissen and his team for staying true to what this Asheville staple has stood for over the years.

I had a wonderful butterfish at The Market Place after you recommended it to me. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a solo meal while talking to the bartender who was refreshingly honest about the wine list and the right pairing for my fish. I'm already dreaming about my return trip to Type A so I can go again! Thanks for the wonderful recommendation!

Time feels like it’s slipping away. Today marks Time feels like it’s slipping away. Today marks one whole month since adopting our sweet little Josie and already we can’t imagine our lives without her in it. How I love her. 💕🐾The most perfect dog in all the world.

Our youngest boys go back to college and I feel like we only just picked them up for summer break.

Summer’s end is near, and while there are a few things I still want and need to do, I will confess I am not entirely sad about it.

Life is a whirlwind. I have no clear view of what’s next or where I am going, but I have a goal 🤷🏾‍♀️So, yay? I am however really happy. There’s something about the unpredictable that I love, and hate.

If only time would slow down just a little bit. I don’t want to miss a thing. But it’s all moving so fast, I am afraid I often do.

Hope you are having better luck at holding on to the moments before they become memories.
Epic morning check list: First day’s screening o Epic morning check list: First day’s screening of The Odyssey in Rochester’s IMAX theater, followed by brekkie and a cafecito or two at @montgomerycourtcoffee, one of our bucket list cafes!

Bonus: getting to connect in person with owner Colin, and walking away with a bag of his Brazil roast, which is 😘👌🏾as a cold brew. The breakfast burritos are a must, but we are late to this game cause everyone already knows, and the vibe is ✨it✨.

If you haven’t already, add them to your list of must-visit cafes in ROC…and yes, the movie was awesome.

Good morning! This Sunday, you can find me in Corn Good morning! This Sunday, you can find me in Corning working @cafecomodony for “Sundays on The Square” from 11-3. Come out and say hi!
July in a few clips. It’s crazy to me how this July in a few clips.

It’s crazy to me how this month flew by. We spent time working on BOTH our small businesses, were intentional in carving out time for the people we love, made sure to take moments to breathe and relax, and got a new puppy 🐾

That fact that it is ALREADY August goes to show just how easily and quickly time can slip you by, and I for one, want to take as much of this life in as I can.

Hoping for more afternoons by the lake, more travel capturing the beauty of this place, more time with my boys before they head off to college, more creative projects with our wonderful @braveworldmedia clients, more conversations and coffee with our @cafecomodony regulars, more laughter with our friends and family, more soft time with my hubby, and so many more moments of feeling joy in building a life on my own terms.

Looking forward to what this month brings.
