Reflecting back on 2014, with gratitude

As I sit here amidst work documents, holiday wrapping paper, and cards from friends, my teen is at the mall where he drove himself to go holiday shopping. This is where my life is now. No matter what else is happening around me, these changes happening in my family are what consume me and are shaping every minute of my day and my being. It's been an insanely, beautiful year.read more[...]

Follow Up to the White House Travel Blogger Summit

There is a lot of information that I am still processing from the White House Travel Blogger Summit. What an honor that experience was. Bloggers from all over the country and the world were present. From the moment we all came together the night before, conversations on study, volunteerism, and work abroad surrounded the space around us. It was clear that despite the fact that we all came[...]

The White House, Studying Abroad, and Diversity

My travels started long before I could fully comprehend the awesome that my solo traveling mom was before I was born. I've traveled since I was a baby because I come from a family of immigrants who understood that to learn more and seek out better opportunities they needed to travel. I traveled throughout my entire life for holidays, for moves, to study, in search of myself, in search o[...]

Hiring Public Relations Representation as a Blogger

Not too long ago, I got an invite to an event being held in New York City from the public relation agency for a brand that a blogger friend of mine was working with. They were promoting a product where her creative content was front and center. I hated the email. Not because I wasn't happy for my friend and her success. Not because I wouldn't have loved to have seen her and support her[...]

Family, Turkey, and Christmas Tree Hunting

I've been busy these past few days with family from out-of-town visiting and Thanksgiving. We rarely have family over for the holidays. It is almost always just the 5 of us, which is fine, but there's something so much more special when you have others present to share the joy and memories with. With my nephews from Texas growing so quickly, we've all found it so important to find ways[...]

A Taste of Lisbon, Portugal

Two days are hardly enough time to visit Lisbon, but this is the part where my job gets in the way a bit. I would love to stay here longer and take in the city even more, but I must move on to cover other places. Were I to take a regular tour with Insight Vacations, my visit would be longer and the pace slower. But as a media guest invited by the company (full disclosure), I am seeing t[...]

Behind the photo: City of Music

I was on a walking tour when we came upon the Bethesda Terrace. I love this area of Central Park because it is where most artists congregate. As a former singer, I can appreciate the perfection of the acoustics of the lower passageway, so often sought out by singers and musicians who have been retained by the city to play there. The beautiful ceilings carved to depict wildlife and se[...]

Be a Tourist and Take a Tour

We are coming to the end of the fall foliage season in New York City. By the time Thanksgiving rolls around there will be only a few leaves left hanging, much of which will fall at the slightest gust of winter wind. I shared a lot a fall photos last year of Central Park, my favorite place to take the colors in, but thought I would share some more with a few tidbits I learned during a tour[...]

Empowering Yourself By Defining Your Own Identity

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I am almost always the biggest (fattest) person on almost every single travel media trip I am on. I am often the only person of color, which is always interesting. I am sometimes almost always the oldest too, but that's not as obvious sometimes. Definitely not as obvious as my physical self. I was recently on a trip where the tour guide did[...]

A wonderful weekend was had. We worked hard, but t A wonderful weekend was had. We worked hard, but then we rested even harder. We celebrated a successful cafe pop-up and a birthday in the city we love with people we love even more. Feels lucky, and we are grateful.

We are celebrating @travisjcain today on his birth We are celebrating @travisjcain today on his birthday but also for all he does for me and our sweet little family. Here we are in a lux NYC hotel, enjoying early morning room service to start his day.

This weekend Travis navigated the chaos of New York City traffic with our cafe trailer in tow, for what was my insane dream to do a pop-up in the city. And he did so beautifully and safely.

To say that my dreams and wild pursuits in life have kept this man *stressed* and on his toes for the 20+ years we have been together is an understatement. And while we may butt heads, in the end he doesn’t say no and supports me and uplifts me.

An amazing father, and those who are lucky enough to call him friend know he’s a treasured one. A talented artist and creator. And we love him to pieces.

Happy birthday, my beautiful Travis. May life give you all you deserve and all your dreams, even if peace while being married to a crazy dreamer like me isn’t one of them. 🤣🤭 I love you.

Bucket list coffee shop: @mercurycoffeeco 🤎 Fr Bucket list coffee shop: @mercurycoffeeco 🤎

From a mobile coffee cart that started in March of 2024 to a brick and mortar that opened in the cool Rochester neighborhood of South Wedge in June 2025, this sweet little shop is serving up cool vibes and delicious coffee.

Was it my third cup of coffee of the morning? Yes. Was it worth it? A million percent.

Go give them some love. 🫶🏾☕️

Two things easily sooth my soul: coffee and books. Two things easily sooth my soul: coffee and books. And this afternoon was for books. Enter this cool bookstore find in Pittsford, NY: @bookculturepittsford. New for me, but this gem has been a part of the Pittsford community since December of 2021, with another location in NYC on 112th and Broadway. (Founded as Labyrinth Books in 1997).

It looks small on the outside, but it’s a massive space taking up two shops, and a garage in the back dedicated to kids’ books and gifts.

Honestly, they have such a diverse collection I am surprised I only walked away with three books. Could have easily done more damage.

Pittsford itself is a pretty area outside of the city of Rochester and a short drive from the same, with tons to do including enjoying a bike ride on the trail along the Erie Canal (or take a cruise!), shopping in cute stores, and dining in quaint locally owned eateries. A very sweet experience.

Add this shop to your book lover’s must see.
