Experiencing a citizenM NYC Hotel Stay

There was just no way that my husband and I were going to take on the new school year without rebooting. No. Way. So we did what we always do when we need to get in touch with our more romantic, more fun selves. We left our kids for a night away in New York City. We chose to escaped to the new citizenM hotel in Times Square, which opened only recently this past April 2014. The ho[...]

Goodbye to The Last Days of Summer

I can't believe that summer is almost over. It just seems to have flown by. Normally, around this time of year, most parents are excited about the beginning of school and there have been days during this summer when I have been there too. But most of the time I want to hold on just a bit longer. I want more time. A few more days of lazy mornings and happy, laughing children in pajamas. Of[...]

Vacationing on Le Boat

This year has been full of amazing road trips adventures. I have always said that one of the reasons I enjoy road trips so much is because of all the things you can see that you wouldn't otherwise were you on a plane. The road trip through the Southwest that I took with my girlfriends on an RV was a great way of turning the fun of road tripping and camping into one fun experience with f[...]

A Staycation Full of New York City History

The fast-changing pace of New York City makes it easy for those who visit, and even some of those who live there, to miss details of its history. It's easy to walk past a landmark and not really notice its significance for being there, or into a restaurant and not even know about events that might have taken place years, if not centuries, ago. New York City is not the oldest city in the[...]

Talking about Diversity in the Adirondacks

This past weekend, my family and I headed to the town of Newcomb in the beautiful Adirondacks. We've been to the area before and have enjoyed it, but the purpose of my visit this time was as an invited guest speaker at the symposium "Toward A More Diverse Adirondacks", where educators, scientists, sociologists, business leaders, and community members addressed the lack of diversity in the[...]

Behind the photo: Feed the birds

When I took this photo, I had just found out that I had gotten to the next stage of several interviews with a casting director for a travel network. I wasn't sure how I felt about it. A part of me was really excited, another part of me was confused, concerned even, to what something like this would mean to my life - if it ever came to be (it is quite possible at this point that it probably[...]

Planning a Family Vacation in France

Our recent vacation to France has only been our second trip outside of the country together. It's expensive to travel internationally as a large family and though I want to encourage those with kids to travel together, I also understand if you want to wait till you feel the time is more ideal, especially if your kids are still very little. We don't have family overseas that we can stay w[...]

Facing My Insecurities through Travel

It is difficult to talk about my fears and insecurities before I face them while on the road because a part of my building up the courage is in convincing myself that the little trembling inside is insignificant when compared to my courage. But, once I have taken it on I find myself in my hotel room overwhelmed with what I have just done, playing the images in my head over and over as i[...]

An afternoon in Paris

I have a lot to share about my time in France, including our lovely family vacation in Paris. While I work on all my stories, I wanted to take a minute to share with you a quick little video my family and I put together to give you a glimpse into a day in Paris with us. It's not professionally shot, most of it was my teen or me, or whomever was willing to hold the phone because shoot[...]

@sagra_italia, a newly opened “Brooklyn-style” @sagra_italia, a newly opened “Brooklyn-style” Italian cafe has opened in Rochester, and though I am always skeptical of anything claimed to be “Brooklyn”, I have to say, it was really pretty close.

We started at the bar for drinks and light bites, where the bartender was friendly and made some pretty kick-ass drinks. We then moved to an open table (no reservations here - walk in and grab an open spot) before ordering from the counter (food is brought to you) You bus your own table, which I think contributes significantly to the affordable menu, and which I honestly didn’t mind.

The food was solid. I ordered the funghi pasta and we shared a Caesar and fried burrata, which was 😘👌🏾❤️!

The whole vibe was exactly what I needed and the perfect spot to catch up with Rochester friends on a snowy night.

Kitchen closes at 9PM, bar closes at 10.

And if you’ve ever been to @tapas177 next door and loved it (if you haven’t, you should go), it’s by the same family.

Highly recommend and excited to go back. Another Rochester win!

The world feels heavy, so here’s some light I no The world feels heavy, so here’s some light I noticed today: this dormant field of wildflowers we planted has been nesting bunny rabbits, birds, and little insect ecosystems this cold season. So even though on the surface it just looks like a field of dead and dried stems, when you look deeper, you’ll notice that it’s also a reprieve, a safe space, a comfort, and a resting place.

I guess, maybe, that’s a lot of us right now. A little worn out. Tired. Sad. Drained. Overwhelmed. But we can also be someone’s comfort, safe space, peace, shoulder, friend…a little light for those who need it. And maybe that’s what we should remember to keep us going.
I get asked often if I miss the city, and the answ I get asked often if I miss the city, and the answer is all the time, but not really, but also yes, but kinda…depends.

I think living in a slower paced environment has been good for me. Healthy and challenging in different ways. I sometimes get restless, but often need rest too. I love the space both environmently and in time to be creative. And I love that if I ever do get too restless, I am not far from Rochester (a city I’ve grown to love) or NYC.

But I also love that when I feel any sense of anxiety, I can step outside, be surrounded by nature, and come back home a little more healed. Life is unpredictable, but during my era of slow living, I want to make sure to appreciate and enjoy all it offers.

Twenty two years seems WILD. I still remember our Twenty two years seems WILD. I still remember our first date, and here we are a gazillion adventures and so many kids later, and over two decades together.

I am the luckiest girl in the world to have met the most patient and kindest human around, and that he would end up being my person and best friend just feels, still, surreal and lucky.

Happy anniversary, @travisjcain. I will try my hardest to make this year less chaotic and a bit more chill….but then again, you did decide to marry a Sagittarius, so it’s kind of on you. 🤣 Love you to infinity.
Happy winter and merry everything as we enjoy anot Happy winter and merry everything as we enjoy another snowy day in the Finger Lakes.

Personally, I am ready to hibernate for a bit and enjoy a book or two by the fire while the sounds of my guys fills our home.

I am in no rush to start the new year but am also excited to get started. I want a year filled with more time with friends, and pursuing projects that I am really inspired by and to be surrounded by inspiring people. I expect to say no a lot this year, after so many years of saying yes and regretting it. I want days that feel happy and healthy and fulfilling.

Not too much to ask, right? And I wish you all a happy and healthy year too. May you love and be loved in all the ways you deserve and need. ❤️
