Too Old? The Follow Up & Answer

Just yesterday, I wrote this. I will admit that I had pretty much started to give up, play that voice in my head of it's not a big deal. My husband worried that I would draw negative feedback from "the industry", asked if I had gotten any push back, if I had started to feel the impact of my actions - which was merely speaking out in frustration of a reality that affects so many of us in so[...]

A Walk Back in Time at Saint-Émilion, France

What I love the most about my visits to Europe is how you can learn so much not just from its literature, but also from taking a tour, walking around, or admiring their surrounding architecture. There are countless cities and villages like these, but when in France a visit to Saint-Emilion, a World Heritage Site, is a wonderful passage back in time.read more[...]

The Storybook Experience that is Bergerac, France

One of the stops that I made during my whirlwind adventure to the Bordeaux wine region was in Bergerac, in the Dordogne of France. I wasn't really sure what to expect. Up to that moment every one of my experiences had been pretty spectacular, enough so that I've really been inspired to freshen up my French skills, kiss this life au revoir, and venture into the countryside of France for a n[...]

Privileged Trends: Slumming It With The Poor, Out of Curiosity

A friend of mine just shared this article on Facebook on a South African family, The Hewitts, who ventured out of their gated community and into the black slums of South Africa to experience what that life was like. There are both accolades and criticisms being tossed their way as the family is left feeling quite proud of themselves for having endured the month-long experiment which the[...]

A Night in Bordeaux, France in Photography

I wanted to share my night in Bordeaux with you through photos since words fail me when thinking of how I could describe it all. There's a lot that happened before I took these photos, but those stories will have to wait till I am not as tired as I am now (I had the most wonderful time walking in the rain today. For hours I walked into shops and boutiques, people watching, and photo ta[...]

End of Summer Days in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

We are counting down the days till the end of summer. Soon, the kids will start school and we will be planning holiday dinners and longing for cuddle time under the wool blankets on the couch far away from the cold. But until then, we are taking in as much beach and sun as we can, on this our last days of summer. With this purpose in mind we headed to spend a part of the weekend in Myrtle[...]

Making Visits to National Parks A Part of Our Culture

Every park I have visited has something different about it, a different effect, a different appeal. It's not just trees and plants and bugs and stuff. I mean, it can be if you don't make the effort to connect with your surroundings. I walk away with a unique experience each time and I love the challenge of self-reflection and solitude. read more[...]

Riding High in Barcelona, Spain

Lack of sleep is an incredible thing. Go too long and it can be quite dangerous, but hang on to it for those beginning side effects and the world is a pretty interesting place. My teen and I arrived to Barcelona a day before our cruise with the Carnival Sunshine was scheduled to depart. I wanted to arrive a day early because I had never been to this great Spanish city, and my son had ne[...]

Speechless in Messina, Sicily

There are a few things that I am proud of when it comes to being a New Yorker. I can drive through the streets of New York with the focus and aggression of a skilled hunter (though admittedly having a license, or a car, is not very New York). I can walk the streets at any time, anywhere, without fear of any kind. I can speed through a walking crowd like water running through pebbl[...]

Weekend at The Catskills, NY

I'm slowly realizing that I am a mountain girl. Well, ok, not really. But I want to be. My husband laughs at me because I tell him I often daydream of living in a house, near a creek, with a garden (so what that I don't have a green thumb) and tire swing on a tree and big ol' red pick up truck outside (so what that we have three kids who wouldn't fit in it). But right now, I'm just a subu[...]

Signs of autumn 🍂 in the Finger Lakes. Signs of autumn 🍂 in the Finger Lakes.

We are celebrating @travisjcain today on his birth We are celebrating @travisjcain today on his birthday but also for all he does for me and our sweet little family. Here we are in a lux NYC hotel, enjoying early morning room service to start his day.

This weekend Travis navigated the chaos of New York City traffic with our cafe trailer in tow, for what was my insane dream to do a pop-up in the city. And he did so beautifully and safely.

To say that my dreams and wild pursuits in life have kept this man *stressed* and on his toes for the 20+ years we have been together is an understatement. And while we may butt heads, in the end he doesn’t say no and supports me and uplifts me.

An amazing father, and those who are lucky enough to call him friend know he’s a treasured one. A talented artist and creator. And we love him to pieces.

Happy birthday, my beautiful Travis. May life give you all you deserve and all your dreams, even if peace while being married to a crazy dreamer like me isn’t one of them. 🤣🤭 I love you.

Bucket list coffee shop: @mercurycoffeeco 🤎 Fr Bucket list coffee shop: @mercurycoffeeco 🤎

From a mobile coffee cart that started in March of 2024 to a brick and mortar that opened in the cool Rochester neighborhood of South Wedge in June 2025, this sweet little shop is serving up cool vibes and delicious coffee.

Was it my third cup of coffee of the morning? Yes. Was it worth it? A million percent.

Go give them some love. 🫶🏾☕️

Two things easily sooth my soul: coffee and books. Two things easily sooth my soul: coffee and books. And this afternoon was for books. Enter this cool bookstore find in Pittsford, NY: @bookculturepittsford. New for me, but this gem has been a part of the Pittsford community since December of 2021, with another location in NYC on 112th and Broadway. (Founded as Labyrinth Books in 1997).

It looks small on the outside, but it’s a massive space taking up two shops, and a garage in the back dedicated to kids’ books and gifts.

Honestly, they have such a diverse collection I am surprised I only walked away with three books. Could have easily done more damage.

Pittsford itself is a pretty area outside of the city of Rochester and a short drive from the same, with tons to do including enjoying a bike ride on the trail along the Erie Canal (or take a cruise!), shopping in cute stores, and dining in quaint locally owned eateries. A very sweet experience.

Add this shop to your book lover’s must see.
