Hiring Public Relations Representation as a Blogger

Not too long ago, I got an invite to an event being held in New York City from the public relation agency for a brand that a blogger friend of mine was working with. They were promoting a product where her creative content was front and center. I hated the email[...]

Empowering Yourself By Defining Your Own Identity

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I am almost always the biggest (fattest) person on almost every single travel media trip I am on. I am often the only person of color, which is always interesting. I am sometimes almost always the oldest too, but that'[...]

Gentrification in Our Communities and Travels, and Our Role In It

I must've have been 10 years old. I had just moved to the Dominican Republic from Sunset Park, Brooklyn. I was spending the weekend at our family's beach condo. My father had said I could venture to the beach across the street on my own. That it was safe. I onl[...]

Social Media and The Threat of Assumption on Our Brands

Today I made a phone call that I have wanted to make for about a year. I called a blogger whom I had been a total jerk to, and whom I had hurt with my words, and apologized. I took full responsibility for my words and my actions, acknowledged how they didn't deserv[...]

Five Years Blogging, 10 Lessons Learned

This month marks my 5th year as a blogger. Five years. In blogging life, I suppose, that's nothing. Especially when you think about how many people have been doing it for decades and decades. For me it feels as if time has flown by, except so much has changed an[...]

Condé Nast’s Choice To Stop Using Interns Might Help With Diversity in Media

Julia Beck, friend and founder of Forty Weeks, shared this article announcing the news that Condé Nast will stop using the help of interns to avoid liability. Liability that it has faced due to the fact that they have allegedly abused the program (and the interns)[...]

Travel Solo, Or Not

Update 8/26/16: I wrote this post almost 3 years ago, and have taken many, many more solo trips since then. I still believe that traveling solo isn't the one way to find yourself, your strength, your weaknesses, your passions, and your soul. Over the years that hav[...]

The Legitimate Traveler

I am still on cloud 9 from my trip to Ireland, which I have to say was probably one of the best trips I have been on in a long time for many reasons: 1) I absolutely love the UK, 2) I got to geek out and talk travel blogging with like-minded geeks at TBEX, 3) I got[...]

Too Old? The Follow Up & Answer

Just yesterday, I wrote this. I will admit that I had pretty much started to give up, play that voice in my head of it's not a big deal. My husband worried that I would draw negative feedback from "the industry", asked if I had gotten any push back, if I had starte[...]

Almost 4 years since we moved to the Finger Lakes and I still can’t believe this is my lucky life. ❤️

Thank you Toronto for the fun! This NYC girlie e Thank you Toronto for the fun!

This NYC girlie enjoyed experiencing a different city, and finally making it to this one especially.

I felt no pressure to check a bunch of things off “for the ‘gram” so enjoyed slowly touring around and spending time in areas I enjoyed the most.

For those who have never been, like any city in the summer, it can be unpleasant on terribly hot days, and super crowded in touristy spots, but there are beaches and museums to escape to! People also seem generally friendlier.

Toronto is really spread out so getting around can take awhile because of traffic, and public transport can get crowded at certain times. Best bet are the commuter bikes or walking - which we did tons of, especially in search of good coffee. There is a lot of good food but depending on where you are, you’ll have to travel a ways for it.

In general, I found it to be an interesting city, with a vibrant and strong immigrant community, which I loved, and am excited to return and see more someday soon!

Checking out a new city for us! These are scenes f Checking out a new city for us! These are scenes from our first night in town.

In all my years as a travel blogger the one place that seemed logical for me to visit cause of proximity and accesss was Toronto. But I never did. Till now.

We’re staying in the city, in a home swap through (but not sponsored by) @livekindred and we’re excited to explore this city with the boys, one last trip before college, and see what I’ve been missing!

One day would never be enough to celebrate the won One day would never be enough to celebrate the wonderful that has been the 20 years that I have been @toniiocain’s mom. The kindness and softness he puts out into the world is something we all need more of.

Antonio, I am proud of the man you are growing up to be and know that you are destined for amazing things.

I miss the baby you once were because omg, you were the best baby, but I look forward to continuing to experience this journey of growth you are on.

Happy Birthday, Antonio. I love you more than words could ever express.
