20 Lessons from 2011

Resolutions for the New Year? I have none. But I do have lessons from last year that I am carrying over to this one. If I must resolve to anything, it would be to not forget them and remember them as I venture into what I expect to be an exciting time for me and my[...]

Owning Your Voice

This site, where I have shared so much with you and in turn have learned so much from you all, has turned 3 years old. To think that in December of 2008 I simply started writing with the intention of staying connected to our family out-of-state and share with them[...]

The Face of Travel

I have a confession. Though I adore my community of travel writers and bloggers, and have developed some very endearing and close friendships with many of them, when it comes to listening to most travel writers talk, especially to others about travel, I cringe. I w[...]

Children on Planes: History of Segregation and Discrimination

This morning I was woken up, by two of my three children who choose to come into my bed. Annoying? Yes. It's 5:00 in the morning. And even as I write this, they are happily snoring where I should be. read more[...]

You would love to travel, but…

Let's face it. The truth is that you would love to travel but you can't. I know that it may seem that a lot of us travel writers are disconnected from that reality that is the so called "average person's" life. For many of us, the idea that someone won't travel is[...]

Who do you write for?

As a freelance writer one of the best advice you will ever receive is to stay connected with your industry peers and leaders through the vast networking opportunities provided. Often times in doing so, you will inevitably be asked one simple question that will, in[...]

The mindful traveler

As a child growing up in the Dominican Republic one of the things my family and I did the most was go to the beach. On long weekends or Summer breaks we would go to the resorts and enjoy all the things so many tourists do on a yearly basis. However, because I star[...]

The worth of your words and weight of the world

I am not a resolutions-type of chick. My personality is too spontaneous, and I like the freedom to change my mind without beating myself up over it. However, I've learned a lot this past year, and have only one resolution to make that I plan to stick to: to not wri[...]

When I worked in Public Relations: A Blogger’s Perspective

When I was in college all I wanted to study was Journalism, after I wanted to be an actor, singer, and fashion designer. But I couldn't because I worked in a full-time position during the day, when all the Journalism courses were taking place. So, I settled for a[...]

Life’s Journey and The Marks You Leave Behind

As travelers we often contemplate  and write about the marks a place and its people leave behind, whether it be in our hearts, our minds, our beings. But how often do we pay attention to the marks that we leave behind? Are they worthy of our mention? My mother wa[...]

The most perfect date night in the most perfect li The most perfect date night in the most perfect little bistro in the most perfect New York destination. No, not NYC. The Finger Lakes.

The entire experience at @deanlanedining felt so incredibly elevated and special, and some might even say unexpected, especially from a farmhouse in rural Dundee, NY.

Husband and wife team, Michael and Lisa Dean create a wonderful farm-to-table prix fix menu, beautifully paired with wines selected by Sommelier @danbrezinsky, who, for as long as the moment allows, further complements the first tastings with a sharing of his deep knowledge and passion for the Finger Lakes wines he serves. The individual pairings per course (4) are optional but I do highly recommend as they influenced each dish and in some cases, my opinion of certain wines.

The vibe is intimate and personally, I enjoyed the early seating as I got to admire the sunset through the large dining room windows throughout my time there.

Their highly coveted B&B is fully booked for 2026, but reservations are open for limited seating at the restaurant, with menus changing weekly.

An absolute highlight, and a must during your visit to the Finger Lakes!

One of the dreamiest of views for me, that I don’t think I will ever tire of, is mist over the hills and lakes. And rainy seasons like these are perfect for such moments.

After an eventful evening (and thank you all for the love and congratulatory messages🤎), I am eager to spend this rainy day back at my computer getting work done.

It’s a wonderful thing to be immersed in a region you love, and to often be tasked to share its stories with others, it’s a whole other thing when regional representatives not only notice it, but reward you for it.

To listen to others get on stage and talk about that work with such admiration and awe still feels surreal and beyond flattering. It’s overwhelming. And I am grateful beyond words, and excited to continue to do the best that I can for as long as I am welcomed and given the opportunity to do so.

So whether it is for work (@braveworldmedia) or on this page, I am happy to share the stories and many reasons why we, along with so many others, decided to make this our home. ❤️

Thanks for the support and for following along.

The coffee? Amazing of course, but Scale House brew also delish, and I was really impressed with their pizza. So if ya know, ya know. If you don’t, get over there stat. I heard it’s pretty busy during the summer months!

And make sure to stop into Overlook Coffee too. They are 😘👌🏾.
